I first got into this band when a local band covered A Single Second. Picked up The Art of Drowning the next day and I was hooked.
I haven't really listened to Crash Love at all and decemberunderground in years. But I do really like their last one a lot and everything before that is just gold to me.
Do yourself a favor and listen to it today. I went back to it after a couple years, a few days ago, and I forgot how much I loved that album. It is incredibly difficult for me to rank my favorite AFI albums as it depends on the day, but it would look something like this I think... 1. Sing the Sorrow, and Shut Your Mouth (tie). This is the only position that never changes. 2. Art of Drowning 3. Black Sails and All Hallows EP 4. DU 5. Answer That 6. Very Proud 7. Burials Not Ranked: Crash Love because that album is awful and I refuse to listen to it.
I may go back and listen to it today, as I do every few years, but I don't have high hopes of it clicking lol However, If I'm not mistaken, a few of the bonus tracks were from STS and DU era right? Which would explain why you like them more.
No love for Crashlove huh? Torch Song is my favorite opener for them and End Transmission is one of their top songs IMO.
Crash Love came out at a hard time for me so I'll always have a weird connection to it. I think it's their worst record, though. At least from a lyrics standpoint (okay maybe second worst behind Answer That). I kind of liked what they were going for by making a straight-forward rock record but it falls short for me, especially the last couple of songs. AFI usually knows how to close a record well but "Cold Hands" and "It Was Mine" are two of their most forgettable tracks. "Too Late For The Gods" would have made a better closer.
I think the the timing of that album made it worse for me. I really don't like it as a whole, and it released right after New Junk Aesthetic by Every Time I die, so that album made CL even more forgettable.
thank you - for some dumb reason it's not available in Mexico... v_v (found an illegal YouTube link, tho)
