I haven't gone back to Blood as much as I hoped. Dark Snow, Snow Cats, White Offerings, Hidden Knives and Fed From The Floor are cool songs, but it doesn't grab my attention the same way Burials did. I gave that record way more listens before I got hooked on it, though.
I find myself only adding Still a Stranger, She Speaks the Language and Pink Eyes to my AFI playlist. Burials definitely is a better album overall.
Id probably have to go with Days of the Phoenix for my fav AFI song. The song that started it all for me.
My favorite changes, but "The Boy Who Destroyed The World," "This Celluloid Dream" and "Narrative of Soul Against Soul" are usually near the top for me. I've been really into "Death of Seasons" lately. Never been a huge fan of that song before but I just connected with it last year. So much power.
Finally someone else who appreciates Pink Eyes! Honestly those three would probably be my top 3 from the record too!
I got into after seeing how amazing it was live on their dvd. I saw them live during the Crash Love tour (last time they played and probably ever play it) and oh man, that ending where the band leaves and Davey just gives it all screaming while the lights dim. So much power
Dark snow, hidden knives, and fed from the floor I'd put on par with their best. Love those songs so much. Rewind, embrace, and greater than 84 are what I'd take from burials. Dammit we have to bracket. No choice.
Long story short, go thru the albums voting on the best song in each through a bracket style tourney. It's been a lot of fun and opened up good discussion for other bands. Only issue is it can be tough to keep up if more than a few are going at once haha
Not sure if this has been shared in here. All Hallows EP (10inch Orange) Vinyl is repressed on Amazon for $11 right now. There are 10 left. Just ordered one and I’m so pumped. Greatest EP of all time.
Time to bust out sing the sorrow. Watched the video for silver and cold yesterday and it got me in the mood.
I spent a night a few weeks back revisiting a lot, and then jamming Burials/TBA in between. Also really loved watching old live videos. There may have been times where people hated on AFI and Davey more specifically, but his stage presence as well as sound was/is rarely matched. One of the best frontmen I've ever seen. Also they're the only band who's covered the Cure and I loved it.
Love this video from back in January. First performance of This Celluloid Dream in 13 years. A very modest introduction by Davey followed by the crowd going apeshit for the opening riff.
I know KoRn probably isn't popular on this site, but one of my favorite Cure moments is when Robert Smith came on KoRn's Unplugged and did Make Me Bad/In Between Days with John Davis.
This is awesome too! I'd totally be lying if I acted like there wasn't a time in my young teens when I was into KoRn. Pretty sure the fork got stuck in that when they did the rap mashup for Lean Wit It. That video above of them playing Celluloid is great. I love that this band has transcended 3 genre's, but now at their older age honor the great songs that got them where they are by still playing them consistently.
