gonna have to spend alot of time with this but whoa boy is it dense. it being a weird ass concept album makes the lyricism even more esoteric than usual.

    Keep on moving. Busy street.

I used to be a fan of his until I found out he was emotionally abusive towards Kimya Dawson during their relationship. Really disgusting behaviour on his part.

First of all, sorry for the long post. Unfortunately, there isn't one single statement in which everything is explained. Kimya has been tweeting about the situation since 2018, so all the information is kind of scattered. This is why most Aesop fans like to write it off as speculation, but it is pretty clear if you connect the dots. There was a reddit post which compiled all of the tweets but it was deleted, probably because the person who posted it received some harassment from the community(I can't listen to Aesop anymore after finding abuse allegations from Kimya Dawson. : aesoprock). This is the tweet that started the whole thing:

She tweeted that right after this thread which talks black women being used by sexually by powerful white men

Around this time, she wrote a song about the situation that has since been deleted. This Brooklyn Vegan article still has the video description at least, in which she explains the context for the song:

Kimya Dawson broke silence with great new song, playing more shows

More words than anyone else in the game.

This is the most recent and probably the most direct statement she has posted up until now. Some allegations of abuse came out about other rappers in Rhymesayers and this was her response:

The song itself has lyrics that are unmistakably about Aesop. Like "It wasn't a rustic barn. It was a renovated studio five feet from my home. I brought you coffee every morning, but go ahead and tell them that you were all alone." references the fact that during the press cycle of The Impossible Kid Aes constantly claimed that he recorded it in a barn, isolated from everyone. "There aren't enough words in that thesaurus app of yours to convince me to forget." again referencing his expansive vocab, etc.

There were flowers in my garden, there was fruit in all my trees.
There was a trail around the corner leading to the salty sea.
But I let myself be blinded by the fire that you spit.
Not realizing how bad I'd be burned by it.
Not realizing how bad I'd be burned by it.

    Life is so absurd.
You can search in all the ditches by the bridges that you burned.
But you will not find a trace of whatever it was we were.
You turned me into quite the flightless bird.
When you told me that I couldn't say a word.

But the facade was cracked and blistering, and so I started whispering.
And in the whispers I found profound answers to some mysteries.
Tales of classic textbook tactics used to rob people of their agency.
Like "don't tell anyone" "dont be so sensitive" "there is only you and me".
And I promise you that there's no other girls.
"I'm a recluse, I dont have any other friends, it's you and me against the world."
"How dare you accuse me of lying."
    "You always get so triggered."
    "Everything's your fault."
You're a terrible friend but I would die without you.

Now get back in my vault.
You were the puppet master pulling all the strings.
You thought you shut us up but we were whispering.
with the curtain open, prior [?] was pretend.
And what you said to me, you said to all of them
You wanted a mammy, a secret plaything, But I'm not your mother and I'm not your pet.
There aren't enough words in that thesaurus app of yours to convince me to forget.

There were frogs and snakes and chickens and grapes and cats and bats and thrones[?].
It wasn't a rustic barn. It was a renovated studio five feet from my home.
I brought you coffee every morning, but go ahead and tell them that you were all alone.
If you're the narrator no one will ever know.
But now the narrative is out of your control.

There were flowers in my garden, there was fruit in all my trees.
There was a trail around the corner leading to the salty sea.
But I let myself be blinded by the fire that you spit.
Not realizing how bad I'd be burned by it.

Or how you'd break me down and make me feel like shit.
I should have known that I'd be blown to bits. (You're a ticking time-bomb)
I should have known that I'd be blown to bits.

There are quite a few more tweets out there. I couldn't post all of them because of the limit, and some other I couldn't find. I remember specifically one where she said he used to scream at her saying she was too fat and needed to lose weight, and then changed the narrative so that he was only saying that because she cared about her. But I couldn't find that one. Anyway, I hope this helps.

"I'm asking for a friend who caught a loss and never surfaced
Simply curled up in his cubby, shutting down the central nervous
Look, float up into urgent care, a checkerboard of blurry squares
Flowers in the lobby shrivel back into the earthenware"

man, this is about camu aint it. heartbreaking shit.

I haven't been able to listen the whole way through, but it's grabbed me faster than anything he's released since Impossible Kid.
