I found Elements on YouTube. (I don't have CN, so there's no point in me waiting.) It's good. Major spoilers. Maybe come back and read this after the episodes have officially aired. I feel like it's definitely the most heady of the miniseries. Finn losing Jake was emotional, but it functioned more like a character study to me. B.Mo is all about play time and video games, so s/he fits right in with the happy Candy Kingdom. Jake is a shapeshifter, so he was able to fit in everywhere, but he found his place in the Slime Kingdom because he's such a laid back dude. Finn is the hero of the series, so what draws him in the most is the rage and violence in the Fire Kingdom (and also he's upset because he just lost Jake). As far as all the side characters, I guess where everyone else ended up just happens to be geographical rather than based on character, although I must admit I didn't recognize some of the callbacks. While LSP turned out to be an interesting focal point (I don't know why I'm surprised anymore whenever I like one of her arcs--despite her being annoying, she's been used very effectively for the past few seasons; I guess she's just one of those good things that come better in small doses), the majority of the emotional weight of the miniseries, for me, came from Betty. Her failure is mirrored by that of Patience St. Pim's at the beginning, but hers is so much more heartbreaking because all she wants is to be back with Simon again, and isn't that what all of us want? Random thoughts: -LSP caused Jake to revert to his true form. Either he's not actually a dog, or (more likely) that's what dogs have mutated into as a result of the radiation, and he just chooses to keep his cute doggy appearance. -I wonder if Sweet P's horn growing back is a sign of things to come, like he's just that much closer to becoming the Lich again. -Prismo and Cosmic Owl's voiceless cameo was great, but Normal Man's at the end was the most interesting. -Ice King had some sick one-liners at the ends of scenes. -I can't decide if I find Marshmelline adorable or terrifying.
I recommend checking out the episode Joshua and Margaret Investigations for more backstory about this part
Elements is great. They are killing it with these miniseries. I should go back and rewatch that episode myself ^
That ending to the 5th episode, damn. But yeah, agreed that these epiosdes were very good. Think Ketchup was my favorite.
This won the Emmy for Otstanding Short Form Animated Program! Particularly, Islands Pt. 4 was nominated. It was up against Disney Mickey Mouse, Marvel's Rocket and Groot, Steven Universe, and Teen Titans Go.
