Woah. Just finished episode 2. Did not see any of this coming. I thought this was going to be more of like, the actual Fiona and Cake stories that were entirely in Ice King’s stories. But looks like to some degree it might end up being a straight up sequel to Adventure Time? I guess it depends on where it goes from here. Does Cake somehow bring Simon into his own head, or do Fiona and Cake end up adventuring in OG Ooo? Super excited to find out.
Halfway through the first episode and I don't love how cavalier Fionna is about her cat being sick. THREE DAYS of not eating!? Lol. Cute show though!
Donald Glover came back to voice Marshall Lee! (But Kumail Nanjiani didn't come back--or rather, wasn't asked--to voice Prismo!)
For some reason I thought this dropped on Friday; I didn't expect a new episode today, let alone two. Are they just doing two a week for the entire show?
I'm starting to like this a lot more now that I know what it's going for. The Prismo episode certainly provided a lot of much-needed context. I don't really know how to explain it but I feel like Adventure Time and Steven Universe just continue to parallel each other, at least as far as getting darker and more mature with each installment. They do a really good job of growing up with their audience. Adventure Time (main series) ~ Steven Universe (main series) Distant Lands ~ Steven Universe: The Movie Fionna and Cake ~ Steven Universe: Future
Eps 3 and 4 were also great. Maybe I didn't pay enough attention to the trailer, but I really thought this was going to be casual one-off adventures with Fionna and Cake, which would've been totally fine. I love that this turned out to be a more serialized story and a sort-of-but-not-really sequel to AT. I love Prismo, even though I missed hearing Kumail Nanjiani voice the character.
Ughhh I fucking loved this so much. It's not at all what you expect when you think genderbent in-universe fanfic miniseries. They used it as an excuse to jump on the multiverse hype train, visiting (and revisiting!) worlds with some really cool ideas. Lots of fun learning about the lore of the multiverse with Prismo. Then they have Simon and Betty, which I feel like is the true heart of the show, to drive it all home with some very grown up commentary on the nature of their relationship. And of course there's the titular duo whose arc and lessons learned are just as important. Yeah the impetus for their world hopping is a conflict between cosmic beings Plus, Crazy Bonnie, Evil Marcy, Marshall and Gary??? This is better than I could've hoped for.
been hitting a lot of filler where we're up to in this which slowed us down but my housemate and I just hit that Marceline arc with the older vampires she killed for her powers. goddamn that was so fucking cool
Finished Fionna and Cake. Loved the whole thing. Really impressed with how fun it was and how it expanded the universe/lore. It's essential viewing for anyone who's finished AT.
just finished the original after all that time. finale was fantastic, loved how small scale it was in the end and about the character relationships. whole last season was A+ we're gonna watch Distant Lands now then Fionna and Cake
3 episodes into Fionna and Cake and I am just extremely confused lmao, I have no idea what the stakes or story are at all
