just found out Once a Bunch is the Japanese bonus track on here, I'm gonna need to hear that expeditiously
First song is legit too sad for me to think I’ll go back to it often. Great album though. I am wildly impressed by this version of Vampire Empire, it’s awesome and completely justifies the existence of two official versions.
When I saw Big Thief in Indy they played it and Adrianne said it was a companion piece/sequel to “Mythological Beauty”.
Wow I’m going to give myself a pat on the back cuz I actually had that thought while looking at the lyrics. Speaking of which… When I was seven I saw the first film that made me scared And I thought of this whole world ending I thought of dying unprepared We moved into a real house A wild field behind it I wanted to be an inventor Collected scraps to make a portal I wanted so much for magic to be real So many dreams of flying Rising high over the crowd And they go “oh man, look at her go” And I'd go that whole section fucking rules
I dig big thief well enough but I’m not a huge fan or anything like that, but this album is something else
Finally put the Waxahatchee record down for long enough to get to this. After a few spins, yeah, no surprise this is really really good
I've kinda stayed away from Adrianne Lenker and Big Thief after trying out Dragon New Warm Mountain and thinking it was fine, might just need to revisit, and the whole Israel business but it seems like they're gotten better about that recently so might as well try with this new one. This is very pleasant but also heartbreaking
Real House, Sadness as a Gift, Evol, Cell Phone Says, Donut Seam, and Ruined are all like S tier Adrianne. I'm totally obsessed with this album right now.
I couldn't put my finger on why the "braiding willow branches" melody sounded so familiar in Real House. Just figured it out though: really reminds me of the 'chorus' from Ravens by Mount Erie. Really similar melody on that short part.
been seeing people ask for that everywhere haha. i feel like people usually don't even know japanese bonus tracks even exist. guess this song is pretty popular
The stuff about dying dogs on “Real House” is wild. I’m sure many people have the same experience. First time I saw my dad cry was when our first family dog died. Second time was when we were older and all came home to put our second family dog down, the exact same way Adrianne described. (my dad called me as I wrote this post).
i still haven't had a chance to hear this whole thing, but i checked out real house last night and oh my god. what an absolutely unbelievable song.
