I was gonna say I don't know how I feel about paying $12 for an EP, but then I listened to it and fuck it let's make it an even 20.

 

Love the EP.

 

one 4th of July may be their best song

 

Great stuff all the way through. First two songs are my faves on here actually.

 

They just don't miss.

 

not loving this like the album but it's a nice stopgap release. bookend tracks are great

 

Here Here is probably the early standout for me. I love a good mid-tempo jam and that bridge is phenomenal.

The production feels like a slight-but-noticeable step down from the album... I know they're going independent and they're figuring it out, but it does make me a little worried for TIO pt.2

I noticed the same thing about the production but don’t think it’s bad enough to distract me

 

This is such a fun band. I haven’t really delved into the the lyrics too much or tried to decipher all of the story and symbols or anything. I’m surprised that the discussion on here hasn’t really veered that direction. Have any of you spent time doing that? How does this ep fit in the larger story?

 

I haven’t either but I think I get the gist of a mythical love story being told. I would love to really give myself some time to delve into it at some point though

 

June Songs are very good. man this band rules.

Oh, yeah… definitely not saying the production is “bad” or that it detracts at all from the EP. It’s just a little less polished to my ears, but consistent with their other EPs instead of a linear progression from The Idyll Opus.

I know it’s not for everyone, but I really enjoy the lyrical aspect of the their discography. For me, the strength isn’t necessarily in the linear story or cracking any codes, but in the repeating motifs and symbolism: hermeticism, maple seed necklaces, the fates, cicadas, gemini twins, fireworks, white stones, ouroboros, unfinished stories, etc.

Just learning what a Hecate gate or a “quoin” is and then connecting those things to the themes running through their discography makes the whole concept feel a little richer to me.

 

This review dives quite deep into the lyrical and musical themes and how it connects to the "main" story.

Am I crazy or these new songs way more immediate? TIO sounded good to me but I struggled latching onto something (could be due to length) but I was hooked right out of the gate with this one.

 

Oh I love and am obsessed with the Idyll Opus. Long concept albums are my shit. I love the new EP too.

They’ve been on repeat due to the time of year. Prime Adjy season rn
