It’s just so nice to have something like this come out. Honestly, still think the planning of the release to synchronize with June to July feels so on perfect.
First time i've ever heard of this band - What a captivating listen, would love a physical copy of this
Everything about this on paper would point to this being right up my alley, and at any point it sounds pleasant enough, but it just goes in one ear and out the other. The length is not helping.
In Media Res and O Tonight are my two favourite. The album is “very concept” and it feels like it should be listened to on June 30th specifically. I don’t think every song has clicked or distinguished itself to me because of length, but is still appreciate it and will likely through it on when every late June.
this already is only half of the full thing haha I have a really really interesting interview with Christopher I've been sitting on for a while that I need to transcribe. lots of cool stuff about the concept and the full project. he's a very interesting, incredibly smart person
I don’t mind it being long to go at my own listening pace, but I wouldn’t have been against it being segmented either. cool to know there is a part II.
Would I be engaging in ludicrous hyperbole by saying this is a masterpiece? Like, objectively. It's not even in AOTY territory for me - might not even break my top-5 - but it's so absurdly ambitious and meticulously constructed and beautifully written that I'm just awestruck by it.
listening to this again and yeah it is a masterpiece the vocal melodies are sweepingly beautiful in like every song would love to snag a vinyl of this one day.
It’s definitely an art piece not designed for commercial success. I think it’s cool they use the word opus to describe the scale of this and bands can have their own masterpiece, and realistically this may be theirs. I just seems so though out and well crafted for a band with such minimal material.
You put words to what I’ve been feeling about this album. Masterpiece, yet not my favorite of this year
Okay I retract my initial comment - this is in my top-5 now, could potentially make an argument for AOTY-runner-up. Where June Meets July VI-IX makes me want to sob. And fuck me the closing lyrics to O Tonight: O you made a necklace A wheel around that maple seed But how's a tree supposed to ever grow like that? Christ have mercy.
