Through my first listen, this is good, but nothing felt like it stood out too much. Nothing that I absolutely loved and want to go back to, which is certainly unlike any of her other albums. The vocals on To Be Loved really stand out though. Will need to listen through a few more times to see if anything latches onto me. Having said that, still gonna go pick up the CD at Target.

Last thing I would say is that ending the album with 3 songs all over 6 minutes is pretty peculiar.

It is not an engaging enough song to go on for 15 minutes.

I wish she didn't feel the need to go for the power notes at the end of "Hold On". It's such a lovely, bleary late night song.

I kind of felt that way at the end of "To Be Loved." I feel like the last bits of that song would be more powerful if she pulled back right at the end.

  6. I wonder how people are gonna feel about this album and Adele in a year or two. Feels like 9 out of 10 people aren’t really into it.

To me, that's just expected. It's like the big ballad in a Broadway show, just blow it out and we'll all clap.

I do not like this song to the same extent as the rest of the Internet.

if you want to hear new sounds from Adele, listen to Cry Your Heart Out - Oh My God - Can I Get It and All Night Parking. If you want to hear Adele doing Adele by the numbers, check out the rest

  9. I have seen almost universal acclaim except for the most music nerdy of the music nerdy parts of the internet. Reviews are extremely positive, my social media feeds of regular people seem to love it, every person I know that knows I like music has asked me about it and gushed about it. Dunno, my quick feeling about the pulse of the album is it’s very well received.

Oh, I'm not surprised she did what she did. I just think pulling back at the very end would have been a nice, unexpected surprise. Kind of like how they handle the song at the end of A Star Is Born (which is very similar to this song, IMO).

As a piece of writing, it's definitely not as rock solid as something like "Someone Like You." But I think her vocal on it is pretty jaw-dropping, especially the bridge section.

  11. Well that’s good! I’ve seen a lot of underwhelm. Even by big Adele fans. I guess like with everything, it’s a pretty mixed bag.

I just finished my first listen and dug most of it. Cry your heart out through can I get it is a great run.
I don’t find To Be Loved to be too long at all. I actually put it back on as soon as I finished listening to the full album, lol.
Some of it doesn’t work (not feeling the spoken word bits much), but overall, very happy with this.

  14. Wait Spotify had shuffle on for albums by default?

For mobile, if you’re a free tier user? I don’t think so otherwise, but I could be wrong.

It is terrible and is one of the reasons I have never felt motivated to use Spotify more. (I know Apple Music is better, and will probably go that route if/when I am forced to use streaming.)

Yeah definitely not for premium. Free tier on mobile you can only listen to anything you select on shuffle, whether that be an artist or album I believe. I’ve had premium forever though so I honestly don’t remember the exact limitations.

I am shocked at the overwhelmingly positive reaction to this across the internet. I need to listen again, I guess

It’s definitely growing on me, but I’m surprised at how many reviews I’ve read praising it as her best.

I didn't like it much at all really. Some nice moments here and there. I think I can appreciate where it's coming from more than I actually enjoy the music. Rolling in the Deep came on after I finished and that song felt so much better in like every way than anything on here.
