I feel like polls don't work as well for actors, so I'm going the route of discussion. I feel like we can have a strong discourse without having to leave off choices for people. Looking forward to some good talks. Some of Theron's highlights: Monster Mad Max: Fury Road The Old Guard Atomic Blonde Bombshell As always, feel free to suggest other folks we can discuss.
also, you should probably link to the long shot thread as well if you weren't already getting there @Henry
Still to this day Monster is a tough watch because she nailed it so well and the story is that depressing to me. When the film production is perfect and the story is true, it’s lightning in a bottle. Prime example for me. I really like her delivery and diversity early in her career. The first two films I remember her from are Men of Honor and Reindeer Games. Neither are particularly strong movies, but she does well with what she’s given. I also really like her in Hancock but I know that movie is also not loved lol. She kills it in Mad Max, North Country, and Atomic Blonde. Really think the only movies I thought she wasn’t particularly good in were the big pay days for her like Snow White and Fast & Furious.
Feel like Mad Max: Fury Road is the obvious pick, but it’s also the clear best imo. Atomic Blonde is very good as well. Honorable mention to The Huntsman: Winter’s War, which is fabulous trash if you’re in the right mood.
I remember being a teenager thinking how awesome she was in Hancock. Probably my first exposure to her in a prominent role. Obvs that movie is bad but it was a nice introduction
obviously her best project she's been a part of is Mad Max, but for my favorite performance of hers it's probably Young Adult.
I went through a few of her films in the last month, Italian Job, Mad Max, and Cider House Rules. Of those, Her performance in Mad Max was probably my favorite. Cider House Rules was a terrible movie in general, nothing really to do with her. She did her best to try and have chemistry with Toby McGuire, but he's such a wet blanket in that. I have never seen Monster, I'll need to cross that off my list soon.
