Let's talk about a guy who has one strange career.

Happy Gilmore will always be my favorite, but Uncut Gems is such an incredible performance and I can’t imagine any other actor pulling that role off the way he did.

Not really but the skill involved in casting that character is as legitimate as the skill involved in Uncut Gems, it’s just a tonal context that separates them. He’s incredible.

Hubie, Sandy, Happy, Billy, Click, straight bangers.

Sprinkled some other decent stuff throughout there, Punch Drunk Love, Uncut Gems, Funny People, Meyerowitz. Solid stuff

  12. The run from 1995-2000 is really great. PDL and UG are two of my favorites ever.

Hasn’t he been sought after by both Tarantino and Scorsese? For Basterds and then as Dean Martin in Scorsese’s unmade Rat Pack movie?

As I said, Sandler could be in The Master but Phoenix couldn't be Billy Madison

I loved his comedies a lot when I was younger but Punch Drunk Love is in my top 5, just a perfect film that uses his strengths so well.

Of the 90s/00s studio comedy stars he legitimately has probably been the most adaptable/sustaining, both commercially and critically. Jim Carey, Mike Myers, even Will Ferrell, their arcs haven’t measured up so well over time.

His best performance is Punch-Drunk Love, with Uncut Gems a close second. His best comedy will always be Billy Madsion, with Happy Gilmore a close second.

He has real skill but he just can't stop going on studio-funded vacations with his friends making "comedies".

A bunch of Native American actors walked off of the set of one of his Netflix movies over racist portrayals. In general, a lot of his more recent films have had heavy doses of punching down. Uncut Gems doesn't erase all of this.
