Also, that decentralization or insularity can be intentional for obvious reasons. Activists are targets, and (white) socialist activists don't become targets until they really start to push it. BLM and immigrant and LGBT+ folks don't usually have that luxury

Also, fwiw, the SAlt led action in Boston on Wednesday had 4 speakers, three of which were working class women of color.

This thread goes over what type of communication is most effective politically. I know a lot of people aren't able to donate or protest but we can make phone calls and write letters.

I only worked an internship at a congressman's district office for a short time before being offered a better gig on his campaign, but all of this is 100% accurate. So many people called in asking to speak directly to the congressman, not realizing that the staff exists for the exact purpose of dealing with the day-to-day issues and then reporting their more general experiences dealing with constituents to him so that he and his D.C. staff could use that info for the sake of voting and crafting legislation. So we would take every call, get their info before addressing their specific issue, and then put the info about them and that transaction into what was essentially a database of each person and what they have contacted the office about; if you wanted to get an idea of how many people have called in about a particular issue, that info is just a few clicks away. What is important, though, is that we (at least where I worked, but I imagine it applies elsewhere) were only allowed to do this for people within our district - many people would call in without realizing that they are just outside our district, or they would call about a state issue despite us being a federal-level office, and we could not mark down their info ourselves but had to transfer them to their own rep's office - and if they did live in the correct district, they *needed* to give us their info. Many people would call in about something but want to remain anonymous, but that ultimately had to get tossed aside because we would have no way of knowing if that person was an actual constituent or not.

I really don't recall there being a difference in how the staff approached physical letters/emails differently, though...if it was just someone voicing their opinion, it would go into the database all the same as a phone call. And if it was someone needing assistance on an issue then that mail would be given to the appropriate staffer, who would then contact that constituent. So ultimately I felt like letter-writing was simply a much slower, less notable method of doing the same thing as making calls.

Has anyone worked with the Working Families Party, out of New York? Also, are we deciding as a forum to coalesce around DSA? There's not one here in Cinci, but I *might* know people who could help to start one here or in Dayton.

So my birthday is coming up and I'm trying to use it to get people to donate to some good causes. Only thing is I'm having trouble finding. Something like, Donate Your Birthday | charity: water, but for other causes.

@AelNire @iCarly Rae Jepsen @sophos34 @Kiana @Dominick and anyone else. Could you post with links to organizations or pages that discuss or help with special awareness days/weeks/months regarding sexism/women/gender equality. Music related ones would help too. I don't mean general organizations that do work for gender equality cause I'm aware of those, I mean specific calendar dates so I'm aware - so the links would have to be specific as well. Thanks in advance. :-)

Yeah! Like this, but for women/gender equality etc. I don't need an actual calendar if y'all can't find one. I just want to be aware of important dates.

Hey all, a local organization around here is trying to buy a piece of undeveloped land and keep it that way. There's a whole host of local-centric reasons why it's better to keep it a green space, but those aside I'd figure I'd post it here in case anyone wants to donate/care passionately about green spaces.

Help fund the purchase of Beaver Valley!

I'm glad you didn't give up! It's super tough and draining to mobilize ppl. I'm def a hermit so not part of any clubs or community things. Do you guys have merch or anything? I feel like I do well when I wear a shirt or something and somebody asks me what it's about, cause otherwise I tend to be a flop at initializing convos lol. but I'd totally wear a shirt to like all the shows! Which isn't a whole ton of shows but idk lol

Jake's a lot more, shall we say, optimistic. I've been through this for nearly two years, with most people not following through or actually being rude, so I'm not so much. But thank you, Jake. haha

Are y'all looking for things specific to the scene? I think not being part of a scene is something else that puts me off a bit. Like it's hard to relate things back to music often cause I'm 4 hours away from any notable type of scene lol so idk if it's important to bring it back to that music scope or if ur looking for more general things.
