i may be in the minority but I like to see it. I've had so many disheartening conversations with friends about it or am just spiraling watching story posts excited about how they scored tickets that it makes me feel so hopeless and like no one cares at all and that the music scene that has been my safe haven is becoming a lions den all over again. more eviscerations of pedophile apologists please

Seeing the joy and glee and the continuing defense just makes me think about how if me or my family or friends are abused or harmed and the abuser happens to have written some songs people like (or have any kind of public cache/power), a general audience of folks who view themselves as moral and ethical and often progressive could not care at all. It’s not a new phenomenon at all but the enabling and protecting is real sick to me and makes me worry for people in my circles and I care about experiencing the same thing.

  9. Perfect solution: a decoy Brand New thread that is purely for dunking so that this thread can go back to being as normal as possible

  10. I... don't know what to say, really, except I'm sorry if my two earlier posts got quoted. I'm not going to read the direct responses either, if there were any. Sorry to those that took time to read and respond, sincerely. I'm just done.

I rewrote this a dozen times, some versions even looked like goodbye posts but then I just felt silly. I mean, Mr Burns said it best: I'm stuck in here forever. I don't know what point I actually want to make because it seems to change every single time. I think it's been an accumulation of issues I've had with the forum for a while and this upteenth Brand New debacle is where it all reached a boiling point for me, leading me to wonder if I actually enjoy spending this much time here. Or if *this* is the best use of my time.

From what I can gather, at this point, is: Maybe I should take a break. Maybe I'll actually appreciate this place better if I curate it to fit my own mental needs in 2025, meaning I'll have to stop checking this thread after following it for 10 years. Wasn't it created in the middle of the Pure Noise controversy around this time in 2015? It's my earliest memory of it at least.

Fast forward a decade and I'm not sure what it's actually trying to accomplish. For me it's been purposeful for sure, informing me on shitty things countless acts have done, helping me adopt a more critical outlook on everything, and I appreciate that difficult topics have generally been treated more seriously than what you're usually going to find in the comment section of a facebook, reddit, tiktok, ..., post. I don't think this emcompasses everything, far from it, but it's the best I can sum this thread up at this moment.

That said, I'm just... tired when I see how heated and tense it can get in that process because I realize, now more than ever, I've never felt particularly well when I have participated in the past or even when I simply caught up and read the back and forths, yet... I just can't look away either. Combine that with the fact we're dealing with triggering topics pretty much all the time and it's kinda becoming morbid or unhealthy all of a sudden, idk what's the most appropriate word here.

Everyone process things differently so I don't know what's the best recourse in that case. For me personally, perhaps blocking/ignoring it is the best way for me to preserve my sanity... and force myself to focus my energy on other things both online and irl (most importantly at this point in my life) that don't make feel miserable! I've never used that feature for a thread before but I feel like it's about time.

  11. I know it's unlikely that you'll read this, but you should know that reactions to your post were largely very positive (mine included) and I think anyone struggling this much with this thread could likely do well from a break. I don't blame you.

Have any artists of note spoken up about the Jesse Lacey and the Enablers reunion tour or is everyone with a meaningful platform just going to turn a blind eye and pretend what’s happening is normal?

The band/venues are doing what they can to silence any and all negative speech about this tour (outside of social ads by AEG which are vicious). Where are the elder statesmen or artists at the peak of their powers who can’t be silenced, but rather would only have their voices amplified? A voice for the voiceless if you will.

Honestly, and I’ll say I am good at being mindful of the amount of time I’ll spend on any website, but I don’t think the Brand New topic should die. I think it’s understandable for people to want to discuss this as it’s one of (if not *the*) largest examples of lack of accountability in this scene. I would understand if after the seven years they were away it was growing to be a tired topic but recent events are a very direct example of present day lack of accountability in both the artist AND fan.

It’s less about Brand New, specific allegations, etc. and about a greater problem in society but I think people who need a place to vent out about the disappointment they feel about this specific example should have a place to do it. I appreciate that there’s a place to discuss it without giving them a topic or any platform they don’t deserve.

I went to the website out of sheer morbid curiosity on Monday and got hit with the targeted ad when not logged into my account in this particular thread of all threads.
