Are Spotify playlist a big draw for stream numbers for artists? I'd assume so but I don't use Spotify so I wouldn't know exactly how popular the feature is

Brand new seems to have disappeared from some spotify playlists that I recall seeing them in before too, and TBS/MO/Kevin Devine/etc also no longer list them as a Related Artist. i did try to block them in some daily mixes tho so maybe that's just something that's no longer showing up from me?

I get the impression that a lot of spotify users listen to playlists sort of like the radio, as a background music sort of thing. People would put on playlists when I worked in an office, and I know a lot of people who listen to them at the gym or while commuting too

  3. Yeah they're huge, playlisting in general is a major priority for the major labels right now, but getting on RapCaviar is like a tentpole of the hip-hop industry at the moment.

It’s a good start from Spotify but unless they’re going to really keep an eye out for allegations they need to bring in a function for the user to block artists they don’t want to support/listen to.

It's pretty gigantic. I don't use them but they're the main reason why some bands have such heavily inflated numbers.

playlist culture is so out of my own wheelhouse but that's probably one of the biggest discoveries of new music and trendsetting these days

Spotify’s playlists are pretty great for discovering new music. There are hundreds, all with different vibes- even dozens within the same genre. RapCaviar is definitely one of most visited, as I think is the case with most rap fans with spotify. I really hope them being excluded hurts them heavily

so xxx's people released a statement being like "hey, if you are taking us off, why not this other list of artists"

thanks xxx's people for being champions of pushing abusive artists off of streaming platforms, we commend you

it's so funny when people are like "if you're going to have us face the consequences, why not this person and this person and this person"

well, yes, that is exactly what we want

I’ve been thinking a lot about this and, disclaimer right here, I don’t listen to this band or really know much about them, I’ve seen them twice open for other people and that’s my extent, so I may be missing a lot of context. Another thing I wanna clarify is, just going off this statement, it seems he does genuinely feel a lot of empathy and is concerned but I’m not sure if this is the right way to do it.

I guess the thing that gets me is that as someone with privilege he can opt out of this but as a women aligned person, there is no way I can avoid this, both being in a position of the victim, and being in the position where I’m looking out for others. No matter what career I’m in it’s gonna be something I have to worry about, whether I’m on the stage singing, I’m a security guard, I’m the bartender, I’m wristbanding people, it’s something I’m gonna be hyper aware of, from red flags I see between two people to something I have to worry about happening to me. And it’s nice that he does seem to want to make some kind of difference and effort, and is trying, but a lot of it comes with setting precedent and understanding what those who are in danger want. For example, he cites briefing security, and there’s been plenty of times that the security not only doesn’t believe or help those facing assault, but could be the ones perpetrating this themselves. Something they can do, for example, would be having someone on tour who may be more trained in specifically helping people in these situations be near merch for those in need. I don’t know if that could logistically work out, it’s just a hypothetical in throwing out there.

The other thing that gets me about this is the part where he talks about how people online will say he’s not doing enough because they wanna see them fail because like, while I’m sure there are some being unreasonable or looking for things that aren’t there, it’s discouraging seeing a man tell people who may be or feel unsafe at his shows that he’s trying his best and not to yell at him. I get it, from what I heard he suffers with anxiety and other things, but at the end of the day " But I’m sure the comment section to this will just be a bunch of stories about how terrible our shows are and how much I suck. And I’m sure the little gang of people in this music world who are desperate for us to fail will turn this against me but if they didn’t use this they’d just use something else." can come off as "keep you're criticism to yourself or you're a hater" even if that isn't what he intended it to be.

I don't know, I don't have a neat conclusion or solution to this. But hearing how he isn't making a big enough difference so why try at all is just weird, its not a black or white issue or solution. Even though we can all have days where it feels like nothing will ever get better, especially us with mental illnesses, it is something you have to expect will be taken seriously and looked at when you post it as a statement to you bands facebook page. Like, I'm not trying to like dissect this and put him on blast because there's probably a lot of shit I don't know, I'm just speaking from my perspective and through similar experiences with similar statements. I'm not trying to say he's a bad guy or even that he's invalid for thinking this, just that he has to consider the effect this has and that even though he can talk about his feelings, and even though he states he's not the victim here, it doesn't make a statement made in a very public setting seem less like a martyr.

I guess it's just hard hearing people talk about how upset they are others are getting hurt, when you're the one getting hurt or constantly having to be on guard for it.

Grain of salt because it's a gossip site, but:
"Within the next week or two, everything is going to come crashing down for this permanent A list rapper. The sexual harassment and discrimination at his companies is going to come to light and many of them will be talking about him.

    Jay Z"

"Speaking of permanent A listers. This mogul/wannabe singer is about to be taken down by some former employees who were also reality stars. Look for them to start talking about their horrific experiences when they were alone with him.

    Sean Combs"

"This former A+ list rapper said he doesn't care about the past of people, only their future. I guess this is why he invited a convicted child molester to be on his new record.

    Kanye West/6ix9ine"

Not sure what there is to gain from posting unsubstantiated gossip blog rumors. If something actually comes out obviously post it, and we'll obviously be able to see if the kanye thing is true or not ourselves soon enough anyway
