Brand New's Jesse Lacey acknowledges sexual misconduct allegations: "I was selfish, narcissistic, and insensitive in my past"

This one might be the best I’ve seen at plainly laying out the accusations of misconduct with a minor and the accompanying apology statement. Point everyone straight to this one.

 

Imagine writing all of that apology and never actually acknowledging that it was a minor you abused.

 

I got the same invite this morning. Wasn't mentally prepared for that one.

'No thanks. Haven't supported that band since the singer was outed as a groomer/pedophile"

It's also blatantly ignoring the fact that the rest of the band said absolutely nothing about any of this and just hid in a bunker waiting for Louis CK to return so they knew it was okay to follow suit.

 

To be clear, that's the answer I gave. My point was not being mentally prepared to hear from old friends excited to get tickets, lol.

Wasn't there more than one victim? I remember there being at least 3, but people keep referring to it like it was only one. So just need clarification because my memory does suck.

Also this isn't in response to the last post. Just several posts I've seen, so I'm just curious.

Ahh I guess that article would've helped clarify for me. My bad! But yeah, it was other things being said in here that threw me the last couple days. Felt like I was losing my mind.

 

living on long island, brand new fandom never really went away, theyre still lauded and covered immensely at emo nights and open mics, their music is still played in bars, so they never really left my attention span but, that also means ive never really had a shortage of opportunities to remind people why they stopped being a band. most of the people i know are choosing to separate the art from the artist, some people are just choosing not to care.

people value their own nostalgia entirely too much. its incredibly weird.

I was waiting outside a venue a couple weeks ago to get into a show and the restaurant next door was playing an emo hitz playlist over the speakers and it had a lot of Brand New on it. It was honestly the first time I'd heard a lot of those songs since all the stuff went down. And while listening to them, I definitely remembered why they were one of my favorite bands. A ton of people were getting into it and singing along.

And then the playlist changed to something else that was a great song and it just cemented that there's a ton of music I like out there that doesn't make me feel morally conflicted to listen to. So I'm gonna keep doing that.

I will forever continue to wonder why people cannot simply move on. Brand New had a good run musically but I just do not see for the life of me what’s making people cling to them after 8 years of radio silence let alone ignoring that Jesse was a pedo.

BN was my favorite band in high school but it’s 2025 now, why would I still make it my whole personality to care about that lol. if you haven’t discovered other music to obsess about by now then I really wonder if you even like music
