I am back to this feeling today. It sucks, it’s going to continue to suck. I don’t even know what shaming people who are hype/who are going to get tickets is going to do. Just seems like a waste of energy to care. It’s over, they won.

Obviously I think the losers and freaks who still harass the victim and who spent their time compiling files to try and prove that Jesse isn’t wrong are still fuckin psychos but like…idk. Enjoy the show I guess. Hopefully it doesn’t lead to him being a predatory piece of shit again. Hopefully those freaks will leave the people he hurt alone.

A very good friend of mine is asking if I will accompany her to the BN tour and just figuring out how to best explain my disinterest is exhausting. I don’t have it in me to come up to speed on eight years of discourse, but if anyone more steeped in the topic is willing to check my notes, is the following rundown roughly accurate? (1) Jesse sexually abused multiple underage girls early in BN’s career. (2) While there may not be evidence he has engaged in this behavior more recently, he never directly acknowledged or apologized for any of the past incidents. (3) Neither Jesse nor the band made any statements to condemn BN’s fanbase brigading the victims. (If accurate, I feel like the better argument for me is that I’m less concerned about enabling potential recidivism, however unlikely, than I am supporting a person who has not demonstrated any form of growth beyond self-preservation.)

 

You didn't come here to discuss this with anyone here, you came here to find a "safe space" to talk about the band with other people who don't give a shit about the crimes Lacey committed. Don't bullshit.

It’s exhausting to be combative about this band at this point and I don’t mean to come off like a dick or anything to someone genuinely unaware of the controversy, but their “apology” has been the top comment on their Facebook for nearly 8 years now. I don’t think there’s any casual fan who suddenly remembers “Quiet Things” or something and decides to look them up out of the blue.

They’ve been virtually radio silent in the mainstream for years now but were never really mainstream to begin with to the point of generating some new fan in 2025 who is blissfully unaware of everything. We hold pocket computers in our hands daily with all the information you could ever want.

 

That’s pretty much it.

Brand New fans will point to the "apology," but it's good to remember that he apologized for cheating and his untreated sex addiction and not grooming minors. And as said, him and the rest of the band were fine with fading into the background and doing no work to protect the victims from being harassed and are now fine with coming back since they don't have to take any accountability.

 

Fans also seem to think that because the apology mentions therapy that he’s “done the work” to become a better person. And should be forgiven. But that’s not up to any of us.

He very well could have worked to make amends, but it really seems like they’re reading what they want to into the situation, so they can feel better.
