You should not be a moderator if this is how you engage with people trying to have a conversation in good faith. I’m not a crazed Jesse Lacey apologist.

This was actually a trap. You clearly haven’t read the thread because just yesterday or the day before posted about the band and talked about some thoughts I had. Nobody yelled at me. Well, I have 3 people blocked, but I’m fairly confident nobody yelled at me. In fact there was a reply or two. Just a small little convo.

Maybe just sit this one out, buddy.

We can have a good faith conversation when you clearly state how you feel about the accusations of Jesse Lacey committing sexual crimes against minors when he was an adult. Seriously. Tell me exactly how you feel about that and I will respond without snark.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say he in fact has not bothered to actually learn what happened.

Was just talking with a friend of mine about this and how I cannot possibly understand how someone could still listen to their music and not think or even care about what he did.

"Nuanced discussion" in this case sounds to me like "please let me feel alright about continuing to listen to a pedophile's music".

And crazily enough, there have been multiple posts in this thread and other parts of the website (like news posts about brand new) where several people have basically said “whatever, listen to what you want, they just don’t deserve to have an open discussion on this website, you can find that on Reddit” lol

Exactly. Like, it's not hard to just not talk about certain things.

Everyone has their personal line and that's fine, but it's also about being respectful of others and having awareness of your surroundings.

There are bands I listen to that I won't bring up here because I know better than to invite that kind of conversation.

Right. Someone here mentioned Sorority Noise recently. I listened to them when I went to pick up dinner tonight. It’s ok!

What's that old saying, live and let live? Like I REALLY don't get why people have to feel so victimized and parasocial about their favorite bands and feel the need to defend anytime anyone says something criticizing them. Like, Jesse Lacey isn't reading this thread and gonna DM anyone sticking up for them a Thank You. Obviously people in here feel a certain way and it's not up to a BN fanboy to interject themselves to defend his honor.

It's called read the room folks. I've got some hot takes about some tunes but like Pen said, that's not a convo worth having as this is the place for calling out and discussing stuff ......not going BuT gUyS aKsHuLlY. It's quite obvious there's a different convo going on HERE and on reddit so if you're finding yourself wanting to fanboy, this isn't the place. Let people here discuss without you interrupting. Your people are ELSEWHERE.

everyone else has already said great things on this, so the only thing i'll add is this. what do you personally hope to gain from Jesse's rehabilitation (that he almost certainly hasn't engaged in)? the assurance that he can't hurt anyone again? or one of your favorite bands back in the spotlight? because if it's the former, you should know that the latter is a terrible idea (especially since it enabled that behavior in the first place). and if it's the latter, i would seriously reevaluate where your priorities lie.

i promise you that Jesse Lacey does not need your benefit of the doubt. you don't have to go to bat for his image, because if he cared about his own image and the people he groomed, he'd be in prison now instead of on a stage.

Literally haven’t logged into this site in years. (I’m surprised I even remembered my password.)

But the line about “proper discourse” made me laugh out loud.

I’m sorry folks aren’t “civilized” enough to be chill about you defending a guy who groomed minors. We should feel strong emotions about something as serious as that.

I don’t even care if people still listen to Brand New. (I mean, I do but I don’t judge them for it as much as I used to.) But there’s this compulsion that a lot of their fans have where they can’t just stop there. They have to defend and/or minimize Jesse’s actions.

I don’t go to the BN subreddit, but even on the emo one the convos always devolve into “it really wasn’t that bad” or “other bands did the same thing and they’re not canceled” or “actually the girl never showed any proof.”

You really shouldn’t have to do that much work to defend something you like.

    Things have changed.

BN in Nashville definitely brought out a lot of industry people who were gleefully happy to be there.

I am not a fan of the band but pretty sure she stated she didn't care if they reunited but would like if they didn't tour her city.

Unsure if she followed up since the reunion was official.

(Talking in general) Obviously this doesn't absolve them of any wrong doing but in scenarios like this it feels relevant to note.

    edit: here's the post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Emo/comments/1dyf2e6/jesse_laceys_victim_posts_on_thread_in_rbrandnew/
very well written, I'm glad she's found peace and is doing ok.
