I understand this sentiment, truly, but I do not think this is why they are coming back. Last night at the show, Jesse gave a speech regarding the loss of his son, and said how playing music and the community of music has helped him deal with grief. He also mentioned how it was his wife who pushed him to consider playing live again. I understand the skepticism and of course there is some factor of making money that cannot be completely ignored, but I do think the loss of his son may have set things in motion.

You can tell a lot about a man by which Tate ushered and molded him into adulthood.

if playing music helps, do it privately. grieving doesn't require you to perform for an audience, let alone make money off of that performance.

I want to be clear that while I don't want to understate his loss and how important a support system is for dealing with grief, it's pretty disgustingly tone deaf to translate that into needing to perform for a paying audience, and shows no regard for his victims from which he stole that comfort.

i don't think anyone is saying he's playing live music again with nefarious intentions.

he's a musician by profession and he's playing music.

he can play music wherever he wants without playing paid gigs that are being announced in advance, though arguably surprise gigs would also be bad

I should have never made a drive-by post in a thread like this while still at work, but I just want to be clear that I completely agree with you all quoting me, and am not pro-Jesse in any way. I was just trying to make the point that I do not think today’s political climate had any consideration as to the timing of things, but hey, I could be mistaken.

Lots of dangerous pedophiles experience grief, doesn’t mean you have to forget their crimes and pay them to be in big rooms full of new victims

I’m not necessarily saying Trump is directly related. But it’s pretty clear they’re doing this now because it’s built up to this point that there are absolutely no consequences and in fact, there’s giant fan bases in the scene that will look the other way and give you a ton of money while doing it (see: Ronnie Radke, All Time Low, Saves The Day). There’s simply no accountability and now is clearly the time to book the shows, print the merch and get the bag.

I do not doubt the Lacey’s family’s grief. I’ve seen families torn apart after losing a kid. No one should go through that.

That said, I have never seen it manifest in getting the boys back together for some promo shots for the AXS tour announcement to make a ton of money off of tickets and merch. And even if the grief angle is absolutely true, there’s no reason to believe anything Jesse says since he’s proven, in his words and that press release “apology,” that he will use whatever manipulative framing he can to make himself the one to pity. As others have said, if music is his way of grieving, then just do the intimate, invite-only stuff, make your money and fuck off to wherever.

Because even in their cancellation, the band has continued to have a steady stream of money coming in from merch and album sales. They don’t need to do this. They’re just craven people who see that the screaming idiots who shouted down victims are louder than the people that want some kind of accountability.
