It wasn’t a full reunion. Per Reddit, he had the drummer from Brand New, one of the guys from Colour Revolt and some Nashville musicians join him onstage.

edit: which is a direct reference to science fiction artwork. whatever jesse is doing right now, it's pretty clear he isn't trying to completely divorce it from BN.

maybe for the foreseeable future he performs/releases under his name with no ulterior motive (lol yeah right). maybe this truly is a soft relaunch, him going out first under his name to gauge how he will be received. hell i wouldn't even be shocked if this ultimately is a new BN lineup and they just chose that name so people wouldn't lose their minds even more.

alls i know is BN for sure have been fielding offers for years, which tate corroborated previously in one of these threads. for anyone to act like its an impossibility at this point is foolish. this isnt the smiths, someone will eventually offer them a bag they can't refuse.

my completely uneducated and just huge guess is for PR purposes that "Brand New" will likely not play shows. using a different name could help keep people from the allegations just by searching "brand new band" or something like that.

The show was advertised as Jesse Lacey performing. The name of his backing band doesn't change that. They're not trying to hide anything.

There's no way they're not coming back as Brand New, if they actually come back. The majority of people simply don't give a shit and he's not going to ever be held accountable. They're not going to throw away money and go by a different name. Hence why Jesse isn't performing under a pseudonym.

 

I don't know, I think "Jesse Lacey and the Human Traffickers" has a nice ring to it. I'm all for a name change.

my thought was just that they'd let the brand new detectives over on reddit find his little breadcrumbs, etc. it's not like any of his shows have been really publicly announced more than a day before. he's obviously doing it somewhat inconspicuously.

 

Because he doesn't need to announce a show at a bowling alley a month in advance. It sold out and had people flying into Nashville for it. There's no subtlety here at all except for testing the waters of playing again. If the band comes back, it'll be BN. They are not trying to hide.
