To be honest, Aerosmith turns up way too much even in the Entertainment Forum. Just endless talk about how cool Aerosmith is and how Steven Tyler is a great guy. It is a bit hippopotamus

I’d argue the quality of/personal feelings toward the music isn’t even remotely relevant to the situation at hand tbh

  13. aerosmith is my mom's all time favorite band so they have been a huge presence in my life and seeing them mentioned here of all places pings a certain part of my brain. i can think of maybe 4-5 times i've seen them mentioned here/AP over literally 20 years of visiting this site daily that wasn't in regards to that story about steven tyler trafficking that underage girl. truly do not understand the obsession lol

On the other hand they did mention specifically going into the tour forum so maybe it's a weird thing only there which is a place I do not ever want to spend time in

  15. that user been carrying water for BN in the tour forum for years. somehow it's beyond them to understand/accept that the discourse is lopsided due to the fact that BN was a foundational band for many on these forums whereas aerosmith is something our parents play at BBQs.

The last time I thought of Aerosmith in the last 15 years+ was SoCo playing I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing on the cruise last year. Even then, I really thought of Armageddon and animal crackers.

All this boils down to is half the fanbase having severe Peter Pan syndrome and the other half that hate feeling like they’re being told who is okay and not okay to listen to. Both are equally embarrassing.

No one is policing who anyone can or can't listen to. The problem is supporting a predator by selling out his show and flying in for it. That's who we think sucks. He's never been held accountable. It is not about who is okay or not okay to listen to. You do you. Paying money and supporting a predator by giving him a stage again is gross though.

So again, that shit is not happening in here. I think maybe one user mentioned listening to music. That doesn't equal the entire thread giving a shit who you listens to who in your free time.

To be honest it's like this in so many other things in life. Once they pick a "side" they will die on the hill for them. It's the same in sports, entertainment, almost any type of fandom and the most obvious one - politics.

My wife watches Drag Race and every time she tells me stories about fans I feel less bad about watching wrestling.

    Newbie

People in this thread love to say that "the quality of the music doesn't matter", but from my personal observations, I can safely say that the exact opposite is true for the general population. The catalyst for this was texting a bunch of my indie rock friends who are excited for a Brand New reunion, and are also big Kendrick Lamar fans who hate Drake.

I think about how Kendrick unanimously won the feud by calling Drake a pedophile. Why did it work? Because the general public wanted Drake to be a pedophile, mainly off the basis of him having made a lot of bad music in his career. There's a huge power gap in terms of their respective critical acclaim and Kendrick took full advantage of that. If he was in a feud with say, Tyler the Creator or The Weeknd, and tried to win a feud by calling them pedos, it would have backfired, because they're respected artists and no one is rooting for them to be bad people. But people were genuinely happy at the prospect of Drake being a pedo, because people want to see his career hurt as punishment for being bad at music. The 'cool factor' of a musician absolutely plays a role in this, and that's why people will pay money for a Brand New reunion while trying to boycott All Time Low's allegations in the same breath.

I look at how easily Diddy was cancelled. Pretty much no one defends Diddy on social media because he was already so disrespected as a musician. R. Kelly had more passionate supporters, if even just because people don't want to give up "Ignition". But Diddy's whole musical legacy was his string of sacrilegious sampling and replacing authentic hardcore gangsta rap with shiny bling pop rap.

There's this idea that Brand New isn't allowed to be problematic because they made Radiohead-style art rock, while Aerosmith is lame boomer dad stuff. The person who wrote in to Steven Hyden's Indiecast straight up said - "Brand New is too good of a band to keep down forever. They're not commercialized slop the way that Taking Back Sunday, Say Anything and Saves the Day were". That's really the crux of it here. Brand New did a very good job of selling themselves as something on a different level of art than the rest of the emo scene, and in any other universe that didn't involve past grooming, they'd still be getting praised for that.

I get what you are saying but I think that one of the reasons that it hits such a nerve with people here is because how emotionally involved with the band and Jesse and that makes them feel personally betrayed by his actions.

Wait the general public condemns the black men, but not the white man. Must be difference in music quality.
