It's hard not to be disillusioned about everything right now. The various "comeback" tours of these freaks without any apparent pushback by the public, or at least any meaningful pushback that could cause change. The normalization of nazi salutes. The world is rotten.

Because while a lot of us have pretty strong and unified opinions about bands like Sorority Noise and Brand New, I don’t see that same energy when it comes to artists like Aerosmith.

I’ve been seeing a lot of Aerosmith chatter on different threads recently- ranging from positive to neural “business as usual” undertones. To me it feels like there’s more at play than just the known facts and evidence when it comes to accountability in our circles. Because I can’t imagine a headline like this coming out about someone like Jesse Lacey and then another positive word ever being spoken about him on this site again.

I love this community and this forum. Not trying to call out anyone in particular- it just is wild to me how inconsistent our tolerance for this stuff has gotten.

Just pointing out that selective outrage is selective and maybe we should bring the same energy we have when it comes to BN to cases that are either similar or far worse. It’s weird that they’re still seen as the poster boys for sexual misconduct in a scene where it’s a major and ongoing problem.

Brand New’s controversy isn’t the most recent one on this list. It’s not the most severe one. They’re not the most high profile or low profile name here either.

the only reason they’re considered different is because we (the most dedicated and vocal music fans online; not just chorus in particular) have decided they’re different.

its selective outrage. For some reason we seem to hate the name more than the crime. We have to understand that not everyone else will respond the same way- especially when there’s money to be made.

Does that make the venues and promoters and openers spineless sellouts for working with someone they shouldn’t? Yes, but it’s already happening. Does it make us hypocrites for constantly dunking on a band that’s been gone for 7 years when there’s similar or worse offenders who still have their platforms? Yes.

We act like this is some unique case when really it’s an everyday occurrence that we just ignore.
