It’s a perfect day for letting go... Supporter

I def remember back in the day (2000’s) that in the scene there were adult dudes (18-23) who dated teen girls. It wasn’t the norm per se but it was around. It kinda just got looked at like “oh if you’re a girl, watch for that guy he’s a perv”.

the taylor stuff is stemming from her dating Patrick Schwarzenegger briefly and seems nebulous at best. not really the same thing or worth bringing up here at all.

There were multiple teachers from my hs who ended up marrying their former students ….and when I was in college and found out they were dating at first I was like that’s kinda weird but now that I’m an adult I’m like that’s super creepy AND weird

sorry not really related to music but just sharing …I guess that is to say that behavior was not (is not?) limited to the scene

It definitely seems that way and it isn't exclusive to this scene some of the stories i've read on the red hot chili peppers, led zeppelin, chuck berry are crazy if true

Pretty sure Lautner was 17 and the Kennedy she dated was 17.

im hardly an expert on it and not really a taylor fan so ill probably just be quiet after this post. googling them, you see one picture of them hugging and a mention that they hung out on the 4th of July the year he turned 18. seems like a pretty weird conclusion to jump to in a conversation about jesse lacey and pete wentz but ill leave it at that.

Thanks for the information, I only brought it up to hear someone more educated on the matter give input if that's true or false

Weirdly enough Tool is one of my favorite bands live but they don't hit as good album wise for me.

Not sure if you've seen in the last couple of years she has done a podcast episode and written on her business website some of her story. She doesn't name him in either so the focus hasn't strayed but I'm glad she is talking a bit more openly. I've thought about sharing those here but like you said she has made it clear she doesn't want to be discussed so it felt odd.

I won’t try to pretend my like for their music was built on anything intellectual…YFW was a fun album that I loved listening to! It was sadly a lot more to do with JL’s lyrics and his voice. The music of course was also a great combo of somewhat unique and catchy/good hooks/etc. But I’ve definitely found that a lot of my favorite bands have become that because of the singer’s voice and the lyrics the band writes. SOAD was my first real rock band I liked because of that. When I first started exploring pop punk and emo for the first time, I knew Green Day and blink obviously, but so many of the other mainstream bands sounded like ripoffs at the time to my untrained 13 year old ear (simple plan, good charlotte, etc), so when my friend introduced me to Alkaline Trio, and Skiba and Andriano sounded so different compared to what I had been exposed to from that genre, I was hooked. Later on, BN’s vocals and TBS’s dual vocals really appealed to me, but by that age I was also forming personal connections to songs and bands that were overriding my initial questions about if the vocals and lyrics appealed to me or not (aka I got introduced to a lot of the scene bands and songs from my ex gf who made me a few mix CDs in our relationship and who posted lots of scene band lyrics on her lj and aim away messages lol…same with my middle school/early HS crush, she would put a lot of TBS and BN lyrics in away messages and that’s how I got exposed to them at first)

So yeah it uh really sucks that his vocals were what drew me to the band lol. But woe is me obviously there are much worse things he did and my whine is very petty of course.

Also, semi related since I mentioned them—I always thought SOAD was seen as the “smart” nu metal band? Or did the goofiness of their vocal delivery on their biggest hit(s) negate that? Lol

  17. I did, and am really glad to see she's doing a lot better.

Mine was to convert people from deep-emo BN/BN-adjacent music to detached/ironic Gen X lo-fi rock tho.

The smartest nu-metal band is unquestionably Limp Bizkit. I will not be elaborating.

John // OC now, OH forever.

Joel Madden dated a very underage Hilary Duff.

I do think people are giving Jesse Lacey a lot of credit for being an amazing songwriter with really deep lyrics when he looked a lot better than he was because his peers were writing stuff like “I’ve got the gift of one liners and you’ve got the curse of curves”. People clown on Taking Back Sunday for their lyrics when they and Brand New were borrowing lines from each other. Jesse’s just a pretentious art school kid with a penchant for being a fucking creep.

For me, Republic Of Wolves and Balance and Composure are the 2 bands that come closest to the Brand New sound.
