So I did read this, I wanted to sit with it a bit because it was very well written. There are some things that I don't agree with, and some things that were very much omitted (author says JL stayed out of the spotlight but did not mention JL trying to teach youth guitar lessons after the end of BN therefore being around young kids again and parents figuring it out and shutting it down). But I think it was a good look into the perspective of an actual thoughtful fan, and the tons of nuance in the situation in general. It does a good job addressing the emotional areas of the attachment to the music but also just the roles and responsibilities of everyone involved. I could go into it more but I think that's a good summary

I DO wish that conversations could be like that. I just know they can't, the people who hop in and troll will always drown out any meaningful conversation and we've tried. I hope I don't come off as dismissive but a lot of it comes from trying to engage with people in good faith - because when I was a dumb child people engaged with me in good faith and it made my life much better - and then having those people just be assholes the whole time when I try my hardest to give the benefit of the doubt. It's frustrating and I do think this website is a better place without that. I know it's easy to say "ignore them" but that, in the end, is a victory for them, that they can just drown everyone out and turn the site into what they want

While that was egregiously lengthy and necessitated skimming past the self indulgent sections ie full discography break downs, I thought that was overall really grounded and thought provoking. Thanks for sharing.

I'm at th doctor's office waiting so I've got time to kill, that's actually a very good read. Long as hell, but you can definitely tell the author has thought about this for quite some time. She comes at it from an in interesting PoV and really dissects Jesse and the overall scene and the rampant misogyny that ran wild (and still exists today). She put a lot into that.

You’re certainly entitled to your opinion and perspective on the matter, but I find it difficult to rationalize seriously taking issue with him teaching guitar lessons locally to kids. While I can totally see how the optics may have been complicated in the aftermath of the allegations and the lack of clarity around it, the man is not a pedophile or a risk to children.

I mean, given what's happened and how the parents reacted, they believed he is. I think it is an issue. I don't think that means "he didn't do any work to better himself/he's the same" but I think it's something to not be omitted. It is not the same as, let's say, Ronnie Radke taking victory laps after every shitty thing he's done, but it is an example of a position that people use in predatory ways that can cause side-eyeing to occur. That's what I did like about this write-up too, it did not say "you should feel X because Y", it presented lots of information to show just how complicated it all is and how everyone can feel differently about certain pieces of it.

I don't think I can chastise people for listening to them but I do think it's fair that if people are going to bring them up, they can't be upset because others feel a certain type of way about them. There's a lot of emotions wrapped up in music and artists and I get that, but I don't think that necessarily means there needs to be a place to discuss that specific band/artist either.

Given what he did I think it's incredibly fair for parents to view him this way and he doesn't deserve anyone's benefit of the doubt either. He doesn't have to choose a job where he's around kids and it's super weird at best for him to even try and pursue it imo.

There was a part of the read that was really good that I've been thinking about as a result of it being posted, and I do think there's value in talking about things like that. In here though instead, because I do think having an active BN thread just results in the same shit over and over. I just think it has to actually BE nuanced conversation for it to be worth it, not just "guess what he's doing now!" or "fuck u I like seventy timez seven"

Does anyone actually have details about this "guitar lesson" situation? A google search shows me nothing about it. I am kinda terrified to ask and being labeled as some kind of JL apologist, but what actually happened with that? People act like he was straight up hanging up flyers asking for parents to let their kids chill with him unsupervised for an hour a week, is that actually the reality?

Oh yeah I mean a specific thread. I think it's fine for stuff like that article to be posted and to have conversations like we're all having now. I just also get so exhausted at the trolling/bickering and arguing for the sake of it. It's tiresome and doesn't produce any kind of productive conversation. I wish more often it was nuanced like this instead of pointless yelling about it.

I'll be honest and say I don't know all the details. I think it was a craigslist-type situation and I don't know the actual age range of the kids, just that they were kids

You mentioned in an earlier post "how the parents reacted" - do you recall where you read about that? I realize my tone here is coming across like ARE U SURE MAN and that's really not what I'm doing, I'm just curious about it because if that is accurate then of course it is a terrible look/situation, and has been brought up a few times.

It was very likely in here that I read about it hahaha but it was so long ago. I haven't really thought about the band in years before 2025. I wish I could recall and I know that doesn't make me sound very credible but I promise I didn't pull it out of thin air

The whole guitar lessons thing has never been corroborated outside of a tweet or reddit comment, can't remember which. So I'd take that with a grain of salt since it was one anonymous claim. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah and I actually do think that's fair. I just think it still should be mentioned as something that has come up, but should be "grain of salt"-ed since there's not strong sources

I imagine there would also be the issue of 34 year old men disguising themselves as children to get guitar lessons from their hero.

I don't think he was advertising that he was Jesse Lacey lmao I think it was more like "hey I give guitar lessons" and then the parents ask for more info and look up the teacher and discover oh shit it's that guy from all the articles

A solid punishment for JL would be to have to give weekly guitar lessons to some 40 year old chud who is obsessed with him

i think the guitar lessons thing originated from someone local to nashville or wherever he lives now like josh said but i'm pretty sure it was on reddit at one point bc a friend of mine sent me the link to the thread when it happened.
