I had some other account at some point but oh well I guess I had two and this one is the one that's getting resurrected. I had thoughts.

I'm a long-time lurker here, and have mostly lurked here and also absolutepunk, for years upon years. I have a strange relationship with this place because I'm quite familiar with some of the trends here, some of the posters/ex-posters, etc. I almost resurrected my account at some point for specifically a situation in this thread earlier on in 2024, but decided it was not worth getting into - when I say I have "negative opinions" of this site, most of that refers to that situation and I guess some political opinions I've seen prevalent/small things. There are definitely things worth criticizing about the community here, but absolutely nothing out of the ordinary in my opinion.

What's out of the ordinary is the god damn abomination that that Brand New subreddit has become/perhaps has always been, and what a lot of """""""cancel culture"""""" related things have become. With the shift towards fascism in the culture throughout the world, it has been frustrating to see a lot of Gen Z and younger become attached to bands that absolutely do not deserve to be remembered or worshipped, and it's even more frustrating/disgusting to me to watch some Millenials fall into the Baby Brain Never Grow up nostalgia trap, especially in the context of Brand New.

I get it - Brand New was one of my favorite bands, for years and years and years (and I certainly connected with them on a level that feels foreign compared to the way these skin-deep cancel-culture tourists retroactively coming in after the fact). For a long time, it felt like a personal betrayal to me when I found out about Jesse Lacey's actions. I couldn't stomach listening to Brand New, at all. This changed a couple of years ago in 2022, when I decided to myself that there was a detachment I was willing to employ to enjoy the music of certain abusive artists again, but never support them - which I feel is a healthy way to go about art.

However, the pendulum has swung so far in the conservative direction, where people outright defend and deny Jesse Lacey's horrible actions. I have no idea what the dude actually feels (mostly influenced by the absent, horrible way the band dealt with the allegations, which I believe have fanned and stoked the flames of all this), but at this point this situation is so embarrassing. It is so embarrassing to watch people still worship at the feet of a band that, while certainly having brilliant moments of music at some point in life, also exists in a world where there's so many artists trying their best NOW, who are accountable, who ARE changing with the times, and aren't defended to nearly a small percentage of the way people bend over backwards for Brand fucking New. I'm over it, man.

I feel that the past decade of media slop has rotted people's fucking brains. I'll have people approaching 30/OVER 30 talking about high school children emo bands being "peak" or "G'OATed". It makes me feel insane because it makes me wish and pine for the seemingly more progressive times of the late 2010's, though I know that that's just feeding into the whole nostalgia cycle itself.

It is intensely frustrating. Look - I'm not looking for Jesse Lacey to be crucified on the fucking cross here, and I don't know what him being held accountable right now would even look like, but personally? Personally, at the very least, I would LOVE IT if we could stop this nonsense, once and for all. These people should be EMBARRASSED with their inability to let go.

Sorry for the double post, but I actually just dug into the sub reddit (I've been avoiding it for years now and have only glanced at it now and then) but God damn the activity on it really depresses me and stresses me out.

If you are someone in the band I hope you aren't encouraged by or see what's happening there as a green light to enter the scene again.

It's all a part of the same culture that produces these disgusting outcomes in the first place. It would have been nice to live in a world where Brand New actually took steps for real responsibility, even in the context of the allegations at hand, instead of living in this gross world where this type of behavior is normalized for the sake of people's nostalgia and hero worship.

I appreciate reading this, I think you said what I was thinking earlier, but better.

Back to the topic of accountability, in January 2025, my local Target store is stocking physical CDs of Marilyn Manson albums. I don't get why that is one of the 5 albums they stock.

Manson got Target through some tough times when it was in high school.

Saw that Borns has an EP coming out in a few weeks and also saw this statement from him almost a year ago that I hadn't seen. Wanted to post it for anyone interested.

Always funny to me when a statement is basically like “I apologize and admit to doing the things I was accused of, other than the illegal things of course”

Lol I saw someone mention ACA in that Reddit and was like I REMEMBER THAT NAME

I think my first forum was......the MCR forum. Started going on AP back in 04 or 05. Stayed the better part of a decade but also went on Deathwish Inc, The B9, Boxden and some local car enthusiast forums. Didn't really come back to AP until the move to chorus happened, lurked for a good couple of years and then resumed posting just a few years ago. I don't even remember what my name was before this one, and I think I recognize more names of people than actual people posting nowadays.

    Alex DiVincenzo
Did Lexi Belle ever post here? Or maybe it was the B9 forum.....
I remember my fav thread was the Lost one, that was like crack every time a new episode dropped everyone was discussing.....and the leaks three haha. Back in the day b fire streaming, when it-leaked, strike gently, oink, etc were THE places.
Oh yeah I'm sure Jason remembers the #absolutepunk room on irc where people were thinking the two were linked.

I've been spinning it a LOT lately and really miss the band! They called it quits too soon imo, Creative Adult was just okay......and then RJ passed away.....ugh. Destined For Anything is a pivotal album in my life right out of high school when it first released.....That era of DW bands was my jam....MLIW, KTD, Doom Riders , Lewd Acts, Carpathian, The Carrier, etc. But yeah, LLT is one of those bands I WISH I'd had gotten the chance to see live.

Lambgoat comments sections are always horrendous and I think that's supposed to be one of the "appeals" of the site. They were at least kind of amusing back in the day when literally every article had an "Emmure should be on this" comment regardless of whether or not it made sense but now it's just literal 4chan redpill shit

  24. I think if they had one more album in them, they could've been so big. I don't even think I heard of RJ dying at the time, looking at the obituary, it was early days of the pandemic. That's so upsetting.

I saw them kind of by chance, I went to go see Cursed at the Che Cafe in San Diego, but they had van troubles and didn't make it. I stuck around for Life Long Tragedy and they floored me. They were touring on Destined for Anything, and that lived in my car CD player for like a year straight.

I took a screen printing course at SD Mesa College, and randomly met one of the owners of This Blessing, This Curse, who was also taking the course. I was sporting an LLT hoodie and he was like "I put out that record!" and he hooked me up with the blue transparent vinyl.

Yeah, Destined For Anything was one of those albums from start to finish there weren't any songs I'd skip. EVERY track could stand in its own and while LLT didn't exactly blow up, that first album definitely gave them a following. I know there's some fans who were expecting Destined 2.0 for the followup but I was already liking what I'd heard when they put out that splits with Final Fight (RIP whatever happened to them) and Sabertooth Zombie. As soon as I heard Hey Death and Sweet Innocence, I said yeahhhhhhh it's not Destined 2.0 but this is GOOD STUFF.

That's such a cool story about randomly meeting one of the owners! Right time, right place it seems. Super cool to get the vinyl, that's one of the rare albums in my collection that I have both variants of just because of my love for the band haha. Jake from Deathwish SAID there were plans for a reprint cuz of the demand.......but that was when the DW forums were still a thing.....like almost a decade ago haha.
