No. How is this helpful to anyone? You've been bullying people for weeks and you're doing it again because a bunch of us think it's messed up that someone can scream at JJR but give Kanye a pass. they're both bad.

And you seem to be grouping these three for what reason exactly? :chin::eyeglass: Where did anyone say Brown or Kelly are fine?

  6. The me supporting Kanye ship has sailed long ago but bringing up R Kelly in all of this is weird. I have never seen anyone support R Kelly on this site and I'd probably lose my mind if I ever did.

“Discuss allegation issues, ways to cope, promote/support artists making a positive difference.”

None of you are doing this and this thread will never be good when it’s mostly non-women aggressively attempting to one-up each other.

I guess I'm not in the threads where y'all argue and have drama or whatever but is this the point where a bunch of men start derailing and arguing back and forth and take over the entire thread, or....

Cause this is not why I'm subscribed :-/

  10. Well, it's clear there's some tensions between different people on the website. Time for some timeouts.

ya the "bullying someone for promoting their bands album" thing was kind of a give away. thought i had settled that with them but i guess not

we're starting to cross into the whole subtle jabs at rappers/rap music thing. if we aren't quite there it's getting a little bit close.

I feel like PMs would be more adequate for a lot of the stuff going on in here instead of airing dirty laundry from Twitter or Reddit on here or whatever is even happening:facepalm2:

Bingo. I had hoped my post earlier about my inner workings with Kanye would lead to a better conversation. That was a fucking disaster.

Anyway, after reading through this thread I think a few things are clear to me ... the "call out" stuff that's been going on has clearly gotten to a lot of people over the past few months with some feeling like there's a double standard and feeling ganged up on for listening to some music and not understanding why some music is "ok" to some and not to others. This was the heart of the issue I tried to tackle in that 30STM thread, which, I have clearly failed at.

I think we need to keep this in mind going forward if we're ever going to find a way to talk to people about problematic art, there has to be a way to do that without it diving into "don't tell me I can't listen to Neck Deep if you're still listening to XYZ" -- because that's clearly not going to work. Some of the harsh language toward people that listen to problematic artists (including Kanye West) really needs to be brought back down though. It got really out of hand in that 30STM thread, on Twitter later, and whenever one or another group of people start fighting and have these back and forth or even these 'like' fights, it ... it goes very bad and I can see why people on all sides are defensive and angry. These things have been happening in some of the entertainment threads as well, people being called names for watching a movie with a certain star or producer. That doesn't seem to be helpful here.

I'm more than willing to talk about my personal philosophy about art and problematic artists from the past and present when those conversations are in good faith. From Kanye to Brand New and hundreds in-between. But when it becomes ultimatums and name calling and judgments of character and moral fortitude, that's when it's clear it's not about working through things or talking about things and that sorta stuff ... man, it's my least favorite thing.

Was just about to say this.

Y’all have two women in here telling you that you’re hijacking the thread and what do you do? Like our posts and continue on. Keep your personal drama out of a thread that is supposed to be useful and constructive.

  21. I couldn't really follow that thread either, but I think? what was being said is that Kanye worked with him in the past. But I think it was a long time ago.

the problematic rappers on songs thing isn't something you can look at as directly as in other cases because so often it's the label just being like "oh we're putting this dude on a song".

rap music's problems need to start at the top, the labels, before the individual rappers themselves

idk, sorry if this is unwanted, I have nothing to say re: Kanye but I think that the reason behind all these people coming in with bad faith arguments is that people have been feeling weird about the way other people (who have clout on these forums) have been voicing concerns about who to support/not to support and, perceiving inconsistencies (whether intentional or not), are feeling like they were on the receiving end of hypocritical judgment

seems like a personal misunderstanding slash a situation where people with both clout and confrontational interaction styles might wanna rethink how their posts might be perceived by a wider range of people
