can you give any of us a reason why you're more open to someone that defends rapists and has gross lyrics tahn you did someone that wrote a really gross song?

    uhhhhhhhh

first one: put a known rapist on stage with him and celebrated him
second one: brought underaged girls into their bus
third one: that band actually was a rapist, and i wasn't caring about their association with TFB
last one: misgynistic lyrics and then basically saying they don't give a shit about it.

    ......

you don't think those are on pare with defending a rapist, putting an abuser and rapeists on an albums and promoting them, having just as bad lyrics? k

well the thing is, he's made sexist comments multiple times (esp the one about Amber...), has really misogynistic and uncomfortable lyrics, tweeted "Bill Cosby innocent", etc etc (all of this is covered here - Misogyny and Mr. West: Why I'm No Longer a Kanye Fan and i'm not saying we have to agree with everything the article is saying unequivocally, just so you know what people are referring to). all of that was enough for me to say no, and i stopped listening to him. and i was a fan of his since high school, so...that was a long time for me.

i let go of brand new after last year. with most other pop punk and alt rock/emo, i had already stopped listening to years prior (with all the warped tour shit).

and i truly understand those who don't want to listen to kanye. based on my interpretations of the situation i don't think this is a situation where there needs to be a community wide outrage towards any move he makes.

also i think a lot of the misogyny in lyrics is a rap thing that's a whole industry problem. it's deeper than far one artist and i won't stop listening to rap because that stuff is so rampant in it

  7. Maybe next time you won't be so condescending when I voice my support for Neck Deep. Since it's all circumstantial and you can't seem to get past the fact that I know the accusations to be fake, why should I get past the fact that you find it appropriate to support Kanye?

you don't have to. you can do whatever you want.

i just don't like how so much of this is like "you go after abusive artists i like so i'm going to go after questionable artists you like!" so much of this feels like a way to get back at someone who called out artists you like. which has some bad intentions here

making an alt account to specifically target people in an accountability thread is a really fucking weird thing to do

If there were easy answers to all of this, the thread wouldn't be a necessity. We are all learning how to react and respond when an artist we like has done something shitty and are having intelligent conversation and a constantly evolving dialogue to help us process where to go from there/help spread awareness to eachother. I don't think one person has argued that Kanye isn't problematic, but I think it is a discussion that has a lot of cultural complexities that I'm really not equipped to be a part of.

I do know putting him in the same breath as X is a dangerous false equivalency and is doing nothing to further whatever point it is you're trying to make

  13. This isn't me getting back at you, and I'm sorry if it came off that way. Hell, I tend to agree with most of your posts. When it comes to that band in particular I have both logical and personal reasons not to stop supporting, and I respect your disagreement. In the case of Kanye, I find him to be despicable and disagree with your support of him.

here are more talking about a band and getting mad at people for listening to four year strong because tehy work with a shitty person
putting JJR on tour is bad. hold FYS accountable. but kanye and chris brown and r kelly is fine.

can you explain why you have the outrage toward any band that works with jjr or anyone that listens to a band that has worked with jjr but not those that work with chris brown?

No one said that Chris Brown and R Kelly are fine and at this point it’s pretty clear you’re not arguing any of this in good faith. Like would you bring this up on your own volition? If none of the bands you enjoy were attacked, would you be bringing any of this up?

yes, the rap music industry is problematic but that's the labels and the culture. you obviously have no knowledge of this scene so you're making assumptions about a totally different cultural problem here

getting stranger and stranger with every post, kinda weird to equate JJR with R kelly and Chris Brown, two artists that no one in here is defending. in fact its pretty yikes inducing that you threw those two in along with Kanye West. awfully telling

i don't like these bands. and yes saying "don't think this is a situation where there needs to be a community wide outrage towards any move he makes." is saying it's fine and not accountable.
