I have zero interest in ever getting into it about West again for the rest of my life, but, as someone who has been a lifelong fan and believes fans ought to be honest and critical about people whose art we consume:

The way he has treated and talked about Amber Rose (regardless of her own problematic stuff) isn't exactly secret or isolated re: how he deals with women outside of his family will never sit right with me. It has made it increasingly difficult to really take in his new material over the past few years.

John Mayer's laundry list of gross moments would be darkly impressive if it wasn't so... yikes. Speaking of dudes whose careers are largely unaffected by their awful track record with how they treat women.

 

just to follow up on that, i felt my points were spoken by someone who can word things better than myself, since i know sometimes i have a lot of trouble of putting my thoughts into words. i've also learned to just stop talking when specific people are involved because i want to feel comfortable posting on this site in general.

i think things what kanye did was problematic but as posted above, i can see where he's coming from from a historical viewpoint (see the OJ trials for a similar cultural case) and he had all the really bad mental health stuff. i'm very willing to throw him away if he continues to say horrible things but circumstantially i'm willing to give him a slight side-eyed benefit of the doubt

 

there's also a lot of stuff in the lyrics i put under the whole "accepted by rap culture" area as well. which is something that needs to be a widespread change as opposed to focused at one person. very worth talking about and discussing but it's an entire industry thing

 

As far as John Mayer goes, I feel like he saw the error of his ways and changed who he was because he was an awful person. He was open with talking about it and admitting he caused a lot of pain. I know not everyone is willing to forgive and I wouldn't blame them for not letting that go.

I don't know if we'll see that from Kanye, since he basically can't be touched and doesn't grant interviews unless he has a ton of control over every aspect of it. There was so much from TLOP era that was awful: Bill Cosby, the comments about Wiz and Amber Rose, the obsession with Taylor Swift, the whole "Famous" video, meeting with Trump. I wish/hope he addresses these things.

i am just shocked to see you go from this to giving the benefit of the doubt and seeing where he's comeing from while the man defends a domestic abuser and denied a serial rapist. id bet every penny to my name this would not be your reaction if max bemis tweeted the same or put a known abuser on his album.

i am not woke, i am tired of seeing my friends called names by a bunch of users on here who are unwilling to be critical of themselves however. friends that spent days in anxiety and ruined by the things some people did in these threads and those same people and their friends are unable or willing to call each other out for the same stuff we lost multiple people on these forums for saying about the music they want to listen to

 

I mean a lot of the people discussing Kanye right now ARE the ones being critical and looking inward as to what their own lines are. I know I have.

Also while what Kanye said was super shitty, comparing that to xxx beating the shit out of his pregnant gf comes off as super disingenuous.

Max is also a white male with no sophisticated racial component to the bill Cosby thing so yes, it would be different
