i'm gonna make the bold assumption that most people on this site are not in his target demographic...

sadly he has a large catalogue of undeniably huge and very recognisable songs stretching back almost 2 decades

There is a song with Luda called “Wet The Bed” that, even removed from Chris Brown’s grossness, is just nasty. I think you’re thinking of “Look At Me Now,” which sadly a great song because of Busta and Lil Wayne.

    Wasn’t he being interviewed?

“Racist tool is interviewed and says what racist tools usually say”, nothing overly baffling about it

Tinashe was featured on a britney spears song so that's worth like 10 songs in one. Guys like Chris will never stop. He's going to keep terrorizing the world without being held accountable for his actions until/unless he is jailed for legit killing someone. Abusers like that don't just stop of their own accord.

Always liked her unlikely collab with Charli XCX and Ty Dolla Sign. Fun song and Tinashe is just brimming with charisma and talent. She’s one of those artists who’s never been handled right.

Tinashe is one of the current best vocal/choreography combos that I've seen. Her and Zara Larsson are the two that always come to mind for me that are extremely overlooked for their choreo skills while still sounding amazing

As the Jay chatter heated up online, Noname posted on Instagram that she is not antisemitic, but would neither apologize for a verse she didn’t write, nor for including it.

Besides, she explains at the Mexican restaurant, social media is a trap. “I’ve gotten a lot of exposure to so many different ways of thinking and so many different communities from just opening up and being vulnerable enough to do that,” she says matter-of-factly. “But at the same time, when you are growing on the internet, people have a vested stake in that growth because they feel like they were literally a part of it, and in some ways they were. That is sort of hard now, because I’m at a place in my career where I’m not really as comfortable apologizing to a blank slate of internet strangers the way that I used to. Not to say that I wouldn’t again, but I’m more interested in tangible, real-life people that have an interest in me becoming better.

    Noname’s Fearless Complexity

  16. I mean, yeah, we should all probably take strangers on the internet a little less seriously, but maybe not when it's swaths of people calling you out for platforming antisemitism lol probably not a "different way of thinking" that's really good to expose yourself to, but what do I know. I just feel like that answer is such a copout considering how valid the uproar was.

Pitchfork can get fucked. Absolving yourself of responsibility for the art you help put out into the world is not "fearless" or "complex", it's pretty simply and clearly chickenshit. It's apathetic at best. It's basically saying they can't be bothered to care about it, which when it comes to any kind of prejudice, is pretty fucked up.

And that’s the second time they’ve done that with her. Absolute cowardice.

That’s rich coming from the person who said they hadn’t talked to any Black Jews or any Jewish people at all

  20. Does anyone else find it strange the outsized focus on Noname versus Jay Elec in this conversation and also the outsized focus on Jay Elec vs the many other much more prestigious hip hop artists who go just as hard with the 5%er stuff

  21. i am not trying to be snippy with that i just feel like something is off with all of the discourse abt this from day 1 and just chalked it up to her point on voyeurism and wrote it off as generally none of my business or interest but the discourse continues and so does my discomfort

I think this is all fair. I think for me, I already knew Jay was anti-Semitic. I walked away and moved on. Given Noname’s politics, I (admittedly probably naively) didn’t really consider the chance that she would hand wave another prejudice. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I felt pretty blindsided.

I do agree that none of this exists in a vacuum and appreciate you bringing this up. Not that I think you were calling me out specifically, but I appreciate being checked and having to remind myself of the larger conversation and biases at play

It's always easier to call out apologists than abusers or in this case bigots and No Name also had a reputation as an activist which made people expect more from her

yeah both of those are valid, it’s definitely complicated by her stated views and especially i think previous engagement with randos online about those views. but like afaik that’s all it was, from what i’ve seen (could be wrong) she never really had a coherent politics and wasn’t really an activist as much as a poster. which is certainly fine. but also means i guess i wouldn’t have expected her to have an informed nuanced take on the NoI (do any of us?) or to react well to a bunch of white people online criticizing her 3rd degree association with a real life black political and social movement in a moment when she has been constantly talking about her discomfort with her white online audience. i don’t know what that leaves to do exactly in a conversation about it but ‍

Didn’t noname retire a couple years ago? I could’ve swore I remembered her saying she was done with music.
