I kind of doubt it was a brand new show or them reuniting. Maybe some of them played with him, but if I had to guess I'd say Jesse probably has written some songs as a grieving process of losing a kid and performed them for their close friends but obviously that's just a guess on my part.

this explains some anti JL things I saw on twitter this weekend that I was very confused about.

 

There are multiple people on the Brand New subreddit claiming it's true. Obviously anybody could be lying for clout or whatever but I really hope it's not true.
