  1. You know who views this thread? Basically the same 15-20 people. Your argument that a thread will be "less visible" doesn't add up, because, if the thread has new posts in it, it'll be at the top of the page and just as visible. Most people just scroll down past the group of pinned posts to get to the new threads, hence, my desire to want to limit people having to scroll half the page down to get to what they want. And the people that follow this thread, will continue to follow the thread and see the updates via their followed thread section. The forum works better when it works as intended. Fewer pinned threads is better and cleaner. And, I think this thread will be better served as originaly intended when @OhTheWater created it, instead of it just being a "call-out" thread where the same group of people say basically the same thing over and over again.

I'll see you again in 25 years Prestigious

With all due respect @OhTheWater I'm saying this as a suggestion, not as a knock or insult. I think if you're going to post something in the music forum to draw attention towards a bands wrongdoings, make sure you include a link, and make the post stand out as well. I'm not a fan of State Champs so I hadn't been in the thread, but I just looked now. If I had seen that post I might've read "fuck this band" and just kept scrolling without reading the whole thing.

@cwhit actually had a good example of this in the Moose Blood album thread, and I'd like to think/hope it was effective.

This type of reasoning is why JJR is allowed to remain in power. The bands who support him should be held accountable

  6. You gotta sneak it in by praising John Feldman first, and then they'll be all riled up reading that, that they'll see your other post.

  7. JJR unfortunately has power because bands (FYS) pay him. Not because State Champs made a stupid comment 3 years ago (which, by the way, I can’t even find anywhere).

Lol yeah let me compare them to a better pop punk band to start a dialogue

  9. I Talked to 54 Women at Coachella. They All Said They Had Been Sexually Harassed
Despite all of that, this year’s Coachella experience was also full of moments I never saw on Instagram: being repeatedly violated by strangers. In the three days I was at Coachella, I only spent a total of 10 hours at the actual festival, where I watched numerous performances and interviewed festivalgoers about their experience with sexual assault and harassment for Teen Vogue. During the 10 hours I was reporting on this story, I was groped 22 times.

Pretty much this. There was no context, just a "fuck this band" post and then nothing.

so hold FYS accountable too. just because one thing is "worse" doesn't mean every incident of protecting him shouldn't be held accountable

Because it was deleted in the hopes that everyone would forget

  13. I do hold FYS accountable. I hold SC accountable but to a lesser degree because a deleted comment doesn’t empower JJR or anyone who supports him.

The tweet was deleted. The people who were riled up were on AP. That’s gone. There are no links. I said they support JJR. That’s context

i can confirm that they tweeted and then deleted "tumblr justice, baby!" when the whole takedown was happening. that's the extent of it all publicly, but that's way more than enough for me to write that band off forever

Then get in that thread and disrupt it rather than telling me how I should effectively educate people who are choosing to ignore history

i'm curious why you only jump in this thread or involve yourself in matters of accountability when it is disrupting your forum experience

  20. By and large, there's still not a "good" way to have these conversations or a way that's cracked through.

Do you put a disclaimer on all threads by a "problematic" artist? How do you decide? Who moderates that? How do you handle when 50 people wanna talk about a new album and have already decided they're listening to the thing no matter how problematic the artist is versus the people that think they shouldn't/want to raise awareness.

Posting a link explaining what's going on, some quotes, and what not .. is good, I think it should be in the first post on some of these threads, but there's nothing I've found yet to do when someone decides they don't care, they're gonna listen anyway. Reminders of the shitty stuff doesn't change that. Linking back to this thread to point out there's a place to talk about dealing with problematic art and the struggle and where/how to get some advice I think is good as well. But, on a long enough timeline, what that person did or said seems to fade, and people are gonna keep listening/engaging with these things. Hell, I fully expect I'll listen to the next Kanye West album. Travis Barker's bullshit hasn't kept me from being curious what a new Blink album will sound like. So, I get it, I'm no different than most people.

(And, side note, yeah, people should follow my announcement thread, I post announcements when I make changes to the forums in there and I've been making chances every few days lately to clean up some things I think need to be cleaned up and improved.)

  21. Yeah the whole 'tumblr justice' thing was legitimate. Pretty sure you can google 'State Champs Tumblr' and google will suggest 'state champs tumblr justice'

But you can't find anything on it anymore since the tweets were deleted.
There were numerous bands that said something about it

Knuckle Puck (for example) has allowed Harry Corrigan side stage for them since as early as 6 months ago.

  22. I think there’s a question of morality, really. I draw the line at people who abuse or directly defend those who abuse, but I would probably lose 2/3 if not more of the music I listen to over things like stupid deleted tweets or who’s signed to what record label.

But that’s me. I’m not on this forum to tell people where they draw the line with problematic musicians in the scene. I’m just here to share my personal thoughts as well as being open to different opinions.

i think every time someone is about to post in this thread they should stop and think "am i contributing anything?"

isn't that example "directly defending those who abuse"?

Look not to keep bringing this up, but I agree and that's why I think we should pin the thread. If the pins are to educate new users, then I personally feel this thread should be required reading. It is important.
