I mean, his statement made no sense in relation to his reaction when Corts came forward with her allegations. Someone who is honestly confused about the severity of allegations doesn't say "shut up and play nice if you want to keep working for me."

 

Yeah, I have zero patience for Evan W./IIOI after that story.

I can speak only for myself, but as an aspiring musician in the Chicago area who had been listening to Evan since Proper came out, I had always kind of looked up to him as the model in terms of what an independent musician should be. Every time I went to a show of his everybody was having fun, and he was always incredibly engaging with his fans and the people in attendance. It felt like a community event. It was pretty illusion-shattering for me to see that someone I held in such high regard could have been so callous and ignorant to a sexual assault survivor. It's still left a bad taste in my mouth. I certainly don't plan on going to any shows or buying records any time soon

It’s always a giant waving red flag to me when guys make jokes like that. In my personal life these dudes have consistently proven themselves to be misogynistic even when they’re not “just kidding”

 

Yeah, I have a friend who has made jokes like that, and I had to take him aside once and tell him why he was being a dick. Like, if it made me, a straight white male, uncomfortable, it must be really painful for women around him and I can't imagine putting up with that shit all the time.

Don’t wanna deviate from the thread too much but thanks for being the one to say something. Guys like that don’t listen when women speak up and too many men just don’t want to have an uncomfortable conversation, hence why these guys go unchecked alllll the time

It's because of how disgustingly he handled being notified of the allegations (per the victim's account of the conversation) and because his attempt at rationalizing his actions in his statement was completely nonsensical.
