I have found that to be true about every single group I have ever been a part of ever. No matter the type of group, the closer you get to the center of something you love the more likely it is to be ruined for you.

re: the Evan and PT thing, does it matter that she's able to legally provide counseling if she still shared confidential information from multiple people she was speaking to? it seems it just clears her of one thing (not being qualified) and augments another shitty thing (acting unprofessionally and maybe even dangerously)

Maybe I’m cynical but I’m kinda feeling a bit like “too little too late” tbh.

  6. It's totally justified to feel that way but I'm hoping something good comes of this.

this is unrelated but does anyone in this thread know who mods r/emo and could you possibly ask them to remove my photo as the image on this thread:

i mean the board probably doesn't have much to do with the mistreatment here, they were just people brought on board because they were community members that bought into sheridan's ideas but i can't imagine they can fix things

feel like some people online are taking an opportunity to conflate certain things to absolve their favorite bands or whatever. of course we can process and talk about multiple things at once but it seems like some discussion on Twitter and stuff is taking the perspective that sounds like "pt and nicole overstepped boundaries! that means cam isn't in the wrong since the victims were gonna let it slide!" but it's like. we know now. can't put that genie back in the bottle yknow? don't know how to feel about the Evan thing yet irt PT bc it seems like there was a lot more direct manipulation going on there but the extent is just speculation I guess and a shitty thing still occurred

So Evan knew he did something wrong and there was something wrong with him and went to therapy to try to get help, and that institution used his vulnerability as a vehicle to gather information to take him down? That seems really messed up... like... the whole point of your organization is to help people in need and you sort of did the opposite of that. I hope he found a proper therapist after the news came out and got the help he needs.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

This seems right based on what we know now. Also, ... just trying to make sense of all of this and put it in proper perspective.. iirc there was a lot of speculation when his statement was posted about him trying to get a head of and/or control th story at the expense of the victim. If nothing else, this could give more insight into why he made the statement that he did.. and hopefully means that help and restorative justice (I hate to use the same words as PT) are not impossible. Obviously the health and wishes of the victim need to be a priority, but what that means at this point, I don’t know. I also think it puts the Nandi interviews in a little bit of a different light.

I will say that there are members of this site who are apparently in direct connection with the victim in the Evan case and they seem to think it's a little deeper than that, right?

I’m definitely not pretending to know the specifics of what he did or justify what he did in any way. I’m sure there are others on this sight that know faaar more about this than I do, and I certainly don’t want to undermine the knowledge that they haveI was just trying to gather my thoughts on the implications of all this. So please correct me if I made any incorrect assumptions

The problem is that this wasn't evans only victim and the fact he was predatory towards his fans is right there. I don't think anything that came out of the PT thing excuses him, and his statement, whether forced or not, still is aggravating and bullshit. From what I understand, the victim we're talking about didn't want Evan to stop touring BEFORE the statement came out ; we don't know how they felt AFTER the statement. None of this changes how we should look at this situation too much, I think, it just became more complicated.

If they felt some type of way after the statement came out, would they not have said something (did they?)?

Anything happening with Punk Talks does not absolve the outted abusers. The issue with Punk Talks is a separate issue in which we learned the only resource many industry people have to access mental health care is acting unethically. The stories are public now, and we have to deal with them in kind.

But therapists should not be blackmailing clients into making social media posts about the information they disclose. If a therapist feels a client is a danger to others or themselves, the proper step to take is to inform authorities or healthcare providers, not run to twitter to "take them down." As a "professional," there are different rules for PT than for lay people like us.

the predatory versus fans thing is something that i don't even know how to give much credit, it almost feels like that's something that sheridan could have convinced evan of through therapy and said it was important to say when it might have actually not meant anything.

as i said, it's really hard to trust much when that statement was potentially crafted by someone aiming on taking him down
