This fucking site sometimes. However, to answer your question, someone did post a video from a set a few years ago where someone from the crowd asked if they were going to tour with bn and Andy flat out said 'no.'

Remember when people thought a bad books song was about Jesse… based on absolutely nothing? People love to assume the worst.

You must be pretty torn about bad books then, no?

Andy and Manchester Orchestra are still friends with Jesse, I can confirm that. The statement about not touring with them was purely practical (as in, Brand New are broken up, so they won't be touring in the first place) as well as a PR move for potential damage control, that Jesse is not upset at Andy for making at all.

Further proof of this: the official Manchester Orchestra Instagram account still follows "jkinglacey", which is Jesse's super private Instagram that he has never allowed anyone but his closest friends and family to have access to.

Still seems VERY speculative. Like, maybe they just never got around to unfollowing. I don't think that proves anything personally.

Edit: Assuming they are still somewhat friendly behind the scenes, does that mean anything? As long as they're not using their platform to support Jesse, is it really anyone's business???

  8. No need to elaborate if you don’t feel like it but is that based on Devine’s statement at the time or is there more?

With the obvious caveat that there’s definitely a line that can be crossed, I generally agree with this re: industry accountability.

The Brand New-related topic that intrigues me is how festival bookers like Bamboozle have asked for Brand New to come back in order to headline their festivals in 2023 and beyond, but the band obviously declined the requests. Feels like reunion rumors pop up once a year, but for now it's confirmed that they have no interest in returning soon.

  12. ugh wow I saw the headlines but didn’t realize what he actually said

Part of me wonders if BN in particular could ever reach a moment where a festival or tour venues wouldn’t face exceptionally bad backlash, but another part of me knows h there’s more than enough money on the table for promoters to keep trying.

I still feel like a Brand New tour would sell out. I still know lots of die hard fans clamoring for more.

It absolutely would. Most people either don’t know or don’t care.

  15. 100% chance of selling out, 99% chance of protest stunts at any future BN event too.

  16. Jesse Lacey is a paedophile and his band members are enablers, I don't know why anyone would publicly support them in 2022 or some festival would want to get them to reunite for them. totally beyond me.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever heard of any protests for similar bands. Tiny Moving Parts are still touring uninhibited, All Time Low had a few openers drop out but have since seemed to convince the world that their misconduct was false allegations (and their new singles get played all the time on rock radio.)

By the end of their careers Brand New had become more a Pitchfork-darling indie art rock band than a scene band so maybe fans in that realm have more to say about reunion backlash. They were to 2000s emo/pop punk what Deftones were to nu-metal, so to speak. Even then I can't think of any indie rock singer/band that tried to come back and was met was swift backlash, maybe I'm forgetting someone.

In a just world, they would be banished and forgotten. This is unfortunately not a just world.

It was weird to me in 2017 when people started trying to get into the relationship with Jesse and Andy/Kevin and, its still weird to me now. We have absolutely no business in whether or not these guys are still friends, how in touch theyve kept, or whatever. If andy has made the decision that his band will no longer maintain a touring or working relationship with jesse/BN, but chooses to remain his friend, thats entirely his business and honestly not something anyone on a forum should be picking apart.

Someone said in a thread awhile ago (more eloquently than I can remember), but basically it boiled down to even problematic people need friends to hold them accountable and hopefully help them get on a better path.

From what I remember BN were pretty insistent on putting the band to rest shortly after Science Fiction came out, and that was before the allegations. I’d find out very, very odd if they decided to come back at any point.

Someone that claimed to have some insider info on Reddit (works in the legalities of the music industry) said something along the lines of they’re done, but from a legal standpoint, it would be impossible for them to start up again unless they did some serious unraveling of the legalese that went into ending the band.

I have no idea what that means, or what type of agreement someone would even come up with for that, but it sounded pretty convincing.
