I grew up in Florida and then after college moved to Massachusetts to now in NY state. I will never live in a red state ever again.

tbf most of New York north of NYC is practically a red state, especially way north NY. Source, I live about 2 hours north of NYC which is still considered pretty south.

I guess it just depends where. I’m in western NY about 30min from Rochester and 1hr from Buffalo and it’s pretty even in my small village.

I remember when FKA Twigs was being interviewed about Shia and asked why she didn’t just leave it rubbed many people the wrong way and this tweet explains it all best.

Pretty obvious PR move but if it does some good then I'm all for it

  8. Apologies if this is the wrong thread for this but I am very conflicted. What are people's takes on selling old merch/etc from artists who you no can no longer morally support? I have some stuff sitting around and I could use the money but part of me is concerned that I'm technically profiting off of their abusive behavior.

The band/ artist doesn't get anything from it and the person you're selling it to is going to support them regardless. I say go for it

I think it's the right thread to come to with questions. Idk that everyone will agree, and like most things, this isn't a black & white issue. But you spent your money at some point supporting them prior to finding out about whatever behavior, I personally think it's okay to recoup that cost especially if you need the money.

  12. I am also pro-asking that question here and pro-selling.

A supplement to the framing that others have already given:
Compared to the initial market for a band’s music or memorabilia, a thriving secondary market is based way more on organic demand and way less on marketing. You’ll be making money because you’ve met the existing demand, not generated it. In my view you’re not “feeding the beast” by entering the secondary market as a seller any more than you would by throwing the merch in the trash.

I also believe that the band/artist has betrayed you as a fan to some degree. With the confidence that you’re not materially increasing their fanbase or funneling profits to them by selling secondhand, I think it’s fair to consider it a bit of deserved recompense.

This is something I've thought about a lot over the years, since I've got some records sitting around that I should probably sell. To clear my conscience of that, I figured that donating the money from things sold to a charity in support of a good cause (like sexual assault prevention) would be a good thing. Have I done that yet? Nope.

Bring Me The Horizon's Oli Sykes 'slapped and spat' estranged wife

Thread by @devneber, Oli Sykes' abuse allegations were finally taken seriously like two weeks ago [...] where it's revealed Oli has cheated on his ex's and caused one of his ex's to have an eating disorder

It's pretty strange how the band is just...welcomed in the scene without any reservations when this is all out there for anyone to read. I remember in the thread for their latest album some people were saying how he was on drugs and dealing with a lot of mental health issues, as justification for his actions, which may be true but does not excuse anything he has done.

yeah i remember at the time the allegations came out about JL, a lot of ppl were just receiving a lot of the limited pre order stuff from science fiction and recall several members here saying they sold the records/merch and donated to survivor/abuse charities.

Tbh I feel like it's preferable to donate the items to someone who will use them than like... put in a landfill. Or turn ur abuser shirts into rags to clean the toilet with or something

Personally as long as the artist is not profiting off the sale I don't see anything wrong with it. If you know somebody that still wants to proudly rep that problematic person then no shame in taking money from them

  20. Sorry to bring up a topic that doesn't need rehashing, but it came up elsewhere and I realized that it was a significant blind spot for me --

Does anyone remember what Manchester Orchestra and/or Andy Hull's response to the Jesse Lacey situation was?
I can't find any press about it, which is surprising to me given their prior relationships.

  22. In what universe is "it came up elsewhere and I don't know" insufficient reason?
I want to clarify what I know about one of my favorite bands.

I gave a reason. If you don't like it, you don't need to ask "why" like a dick lol

I don't think they said anything, which I wouldn't really have expected them to. They obviously have personal, as well as professional, relationships with the band and were navigating their own success of ABMTTS and "The Gold" at the time.

  24. Thanks, that's kind of what I remembered.

Crazy that that was when "The Gold" was big. Scrolling back to that time in their FB was a trip -- as with many things lately, it feels simultaneously more recent and more long ago than 4.5ish years should.

I believe it’s because of this discussion in the tour thread.

To be clear I have nothing to add regarding this, I’m only sharing so people know why this has randomly been brought up in here, since not everyone reads the tour thread where it started.
