I live in CA and totally agree that Newsom has handled the pandemic the completely wrong way. From the beginning, it never made sense to me why to start opening things back up the second things might be getting a little better. Like no, keep doing what’s working.

But I don’t harbor animosity to venues or artists who have booked shows several months down the line from now. Biden himself is saying everyone who wants to be vaccinated will be able to be by spring. I don’t believe that will happen, but it’s hard for me to find fault with artists/venues when that’s what’s being said by our leaders.

I’ll wait to see what artists and venues do when those dates get closer. Shows can be canceled or rescheduled, artists who are uncomfortable can pull out, etc

We have riot fest tickets cuz Brianna really wants to see MCR (so do I obviously) but man I just don’t know

September is still 8 months away but I don’t see it getting better at all in 2021

My buddy and I have been toying with the idea of getting New Order/Pet Shop Boys fix for September

Same here. Convinced it will be pushed back again to 2022.

 

It feels weird to realize that the shows I had planned last year all got pushed back to more or less the same dates this year... but I still don't see them happening. Even Dua Lipa... I can't imagine being in an arena in the fall. Feels too soon.

 

There will be safe and responsible shows by the end of '21. Maybe not everywhere, in every state, but it will exist. We'll hit herd immunity from the vaccine over the summer / early fall.

Obviously a lot of factors which could change between now and then, but I think it's reasonable to be optimistic.

 

That's as optimistic an estimate as any of us could hope for right now, I think. Here in Ireland, I don't expect shows to resume with anything like their normal schedule until September at the very earliest and I've written off 2021 for the moment just in case.

I know here in Virginia, there's talk of resuming outdoor music festivals in the summer. A lot of the promoters are really hopeful that that'll be a thing. After watching the vaccine rollout here...I'm doubtful.

I know Lockn had to be pushed to October of this year, and FloydFest is still slated for July, as is Red Wing Roots.

 

From a Western Australia perspective (community spread has been eliminated for six months), seated concerts are allowed as long as there's not more than 10,000 people, but even then there has to be adherence to a 2sqm per person rule. All other concerts allow a maximum of 6,000 patrons, but with no dancing area...which makes zero sense because nightclubs have been allowed to operate for months.

Fully aware this isn’t really an “accountability” thing in the sense this thread is normally used for but, y’know, for anyone that likes to keep tabs on this stuff

 

Seems like a lot of hip hop artists have come out recently as anti vaxxers.

Think it's important to note, it's not really just a hip-hop problem, but a belief by many minorities, as this article suggests:

Throughout history, Black people and other minorities have been given more than enough reasons to steer clear of government-provided aid. Communities have been targeted and experienced harm at the hand of biomedical research and practices. The anti-vaccine movement does more harm than intended good, but it would not be fair to exclude the warranted mistrust between Black people, medical institutions, and government involvement in health and research.

 

It sucks. There's more of a complex history when it comes to POC not trusting vaccines. It's not exactly an excuse when you have such a huge platform and access to so much credible information, but it's definitely something that should be considered.
