I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if more people come forward with Bieber stories. kudos to Danielle for sharing, can’t imagine how hard it would be given just how famous he is and the intensity of a lot of his fans.

I don’t know how to word this without sounding cynical or insensitive etc

but I genuinely feel I could say with 99% certainty that every male celebrity has done this

We literally only just started talking about consent and power dynamics. “Groupie culture” has been normalized since the dawn of celebrities.
Men given a plethora of power, money, and access to women....why is anyone at all shocked to discover what’s really going on.

yeah I was talking with some friends about this last night, pretty much every musician who is considered a “legend” and has had large numbers of “groupies”... I assume that they all have maaaaany skeletons in their closets.

Idk if I’m just more cynical or what (I prefer to think of it as being realistic looool) but yeah I feel this is true about
    -the overwhelming majority of celebrities
    And
-the overwhelming majority of men in general honestly. Add in the power dynamics and it becomes a no brainer.

It’s definitely a systematic thing, this shit was encouraged for years. Like the Red Hot Chili Peppers guy bragging about an underage groupie in his book. There were never consequences so it’s part of the culture.

That doesn’t mean it’s not able to change, or that individuals coming forward shouldn’t be taken seriously. The latter is needed for the former to happen. This is all hand in hand with the need to change rape culture in totality, the music industry in so many ways is a hot bed of abuse.

To be clear, I wasn’t remotely implying this.

I feel like there's a difference between yes all men and saying literally every man has, but I hate that my brain is automatically like um Paul Rudd has never and who knows who else, but yeah it's unsurprising that someone like Ansel has no idea what consent is

I know that my view is controversial and of course I don’t mean literally *every* man
But in the context of the fact that the nuances of consent has only recently been mass discussed, yes I think most men have committed sexual assault. And I think that’s something that’s absolutely necessary to acknowledge and square down with if we ever want it to change.

I have a fuckton of nuanced views about this as someone who’s vast majority of sexual encounters were at best shaky consent and at worst definitive r*pe.
I just never go into them because most people are not looking to have a complex and difficult conversation about it.

Speaking more in general, we’re saying the same things basically.

Okay haha. I just wanted to nip that in the bud because I anticipated/feared my words being twisted in that way

oh for sure when the whole Az*z thing happened it was telling how everyone has no idea what consent means, and has internalized shitty interactions as normal

Honestly that situation should have been the start of this conversation but people would rather argue over whether or not he should be ‘cancelled’

I am not remotely implying these people shouldn’t lose their platforms over these things, but what I am saying is that focusing on the individual committing it (and how we should handle that specific individual) rather than using it as an opportunity to have a cultural conversation at large has IMO been allowing rape culture to go under the radar overall unchallenged.

    This!!!
And I would honestly take it a step further though and say don’t apply that shit to your friends either

Once again I’m aware this is a somewhat controversial stance but I feel strongly that we have to reconcile the fact that the majority of men we know and love have committed some kind of sexual assault. Not being able to accept that only keeps us from moving forward in a real way.

I hate the fact that this won't impact Bieber's career at all.

Like we have people like XXX & 6ix9ine whose careers thrived, not in spite of, but BECAUSE OF assault allegations. So while I'm hoping Bieber has too much of a goody-two-shoes image to withstand the impact assault allegations would have to his image, I doubt someone as famous as Bieber will get toppled by two Twitter posts.

Which sucks, cause now he'll just stay in the public consciousness like Chris Brown, and we'll just have to pretend he isn't a monster when other artists prop him up.

I’ve hated this whole era of Bieber for the simple fact that he’s getting praise for loving his wife, doing the “Intentions” music video to benefit the Alexandria House/“Stuck On You” video for charity. Yet the allegations that he verbally abused and gaslit Selena Gomez go almost completely ignored. It feels like some real Scooter Braun PR maneuvering.

These new allegations are awful. What scum.

his relationship with Hailey also seems uncomfortable, they post a lot of Instagram videos where he's yelling at her

he and his friends also cornered John Mulaney in a hallway when he hosted SNL
