I have a friend who is very plugged into music and last week he sent me a spotify link saying "I think I like this. It's Twangy emo". I clicked on it and it was the new Pinegrove album. He had never even heard of them until that moment, and it was only because Spotify suggested it.

So, I can see how your average everyday person might not be aware, even if they are big into music.

The music scene, especially that one, is so small though. I was in a band for a while and didn't really do much outside of the Boston area, and even I have a lot of tangential connections to bands within that scene through friends or shows I've played.

Hovvdy has to have some knowledge of what's been going on. How they approach that information is on them. I imagine they're friends, so they come at it from a different perspective I guess. I'm not really sure how to navigate that part of the conversation though.

Might is right heavily influenced Anton LaVey and was quoted in early editions of the Satanic bible, both of which Skiba regularly talk about so how is this new?

Let's hold our breath until we disappear

I think we agree Skiba's views go further back, but the post I referenced was from yesterday.

It's always been problematic, so has his friendship with Douglas Peirce. On top of all that, Skiba flaunting Nazi imagery adds another level of fucked up. His cryptic fascist leanings are becoming more and more overt.

"Other parts of the book deal with the topics of race and male–female relations. The book claims that the woman and the family as a whole are the property of the man and its proclamation that the Anglo-Saxon race is innately superior to all other races.[4] The book also contains anti-Christian and anti-Semitic statements."

Between Skiba's Nazi leanings and Travis's support of XXXTentacion (co-signed by the whole band) I can't see how people still support Blink or Alkaline Trio. There are so many other bands/musicians out there to support who aren't questionable in any way.

im a long time trio fan and always liked skiba tho tbh hes always struck me as kind of out there, like hes always been a big reader that dabbles into a lot of weird shit so my gut instinct here isnt necessarily to interpret him reading a couple books as endorsement. theres definitely valid well-intentioned reasons to read/study works that advocate horrible views.

THAT SAID imo at the very best it is still VERY irresponsible for someone w a following like his to post shit like that and not make some kind of statement denouncing its harmful messages. like either hes on board w the shit or he just doesnt give a fuck and encouraging a bunch of impressionable fans to read the shit too and come to their own conclusions.

i honestly dont think hes personally a bigot but he seems like the type thats WAY too "openminded" to the point where he doesnt see the problem w associating himself w shitty ppl.

The sound guy was right to play Tom's track over Skiba for "Feeling This."

Yeah, for anyone curious in a critical way to learn about fascism, there's a more academic route to take. Roger Griffin, Robert Paxton, Alexander Reid Ross and Shane Burley have great books offering critical insight and history on Nazism/fascism's history. What's disturbing about what Skiba's doing is the way he seems to be going straight to the source material and glorifying it, not to mention dodging questions from fans about his stance. It's irresponsible and sketchy to say the least.

This goes beyond his book selection, though. You don’t feature a known neo-Nazi on one of your songs in the name of “education” or “bothsideism.” The bare minimum of a decent human wouldn’t even entertain having Nazis as friends. Matt Skiba has been toeing the line for a while, he’s just overt about it now.

It seems like to me that this woman is being pressured to retract her account of the situation by Hobo Johnson and/or his crew/lawyers.

  20. I remember seeing some posts about him in here last fall regarding accusations that had been made a long time ago. Anyone know if this is the same person making the allegations? Or is it a different person?

Those posts were from me, and the screenshots were from a private Facebook group I am a member of. The person who posted about it in the group I am in said that the survivor made a statement on her private Facebook and the person would not be sharing the statement unless the survivor felt comfortable for it to be public. That was essentially where that ended and I am unsure if it is the same person or not.

Definitely does, because she replied to the OG tweet her friend(?) posted with heart emojis or something. I saw it this morning and now everything is deleted.
