Yeahhh so I asked for clarification because it seemed odd it was posted here. If that's all it was, and Jake ended up just overreacting and saying something he shouldn't have, it seems like not the biggest deal in the world.

 

I haven’t seen this discussed here yet, but Halsey thanked Brand New in the liner notes of her new album and sampled them in a song on Manic. Photo attached of my vinyl. Pretty disappointed.

I can’t fathom an artist being so into Brand New that they thank them in the liner notes of an album in 2020, while also not being aware of what Jesse did. Doesn’t square.

I sent her a DM asking about her reasoning for it. I think there is a certain power in a young woman trying to reclaim the words or music of an abusive man and it’s different than just men feeding off each other, but I also think of that was her intent she should know it comes off poorly.

 

What song did she sample them so I know to avoid it?

Also I guess it didn’t take place in this thread but this is pretty similar to when kitty used 70x7 lyrics in her latest project. I had a dm conversation with her about how it was rly triggering to hear his words without meaning to, and how it could be for others as well. Kitty was extremely receptive to this conversation and was incredibly apologetic and assured they weren’t getting money and they (supposedly, I haven’t double checked) switched out the song with a version that doesn’t have it

I would never in one million years have thought that was a sample. It’s literally just the drums from fork and knife sped up a bit. I couldn’t pick out anything else recognizable.

Edit: read this back and realized it sounds pretty dismissive.

this is mostly just my surprise that that would have to even be put in the liner notes of the record..it’s just such an indiscriminate beat..lol.
