Maybe someone can talk me off this ledge w/r/t Pinegrove but despite being one of the loudest voices abt it, I just can’t bring myself to fault people for anymore for public support of them/him. With the positive PR campaign and all publicly available info being positive about rehabilitation aside from a few vagueposts, I just don’t really know what I can expect of people who don’t know the survivor or use this forum

 

Never was a Pinegrove fan...are they doing well? Indie music took huge, deserved, hits do to shitty people and most got cancelled and exiled...yet, in hip hop artists with the same accusations (CB, X, Kodak, etc) seem to suffer very few consequences from their fan bases. I mean, R Kelly was still selling out shows up until like 9 months ago ffs.

 

I genuinely have no clue what is meant by indie music took a huge hit due to shitty people. Like, the closest I can think of is Brand New and that's literally only because they stepped away.

 

There is literally no rhyme or reason for why some celebrities lose their platform/fanbase once doing something abhorrent and some don’t. There are many examples of both cases in every genre of not only music, but entertainment.

To turn a blind eye to this and focus only on hip hop, there’s probably internalized racism at play.

No internalized racism here, but I welcome your opinion. It’s just trash that misogyny and abuse in popular music is still being celebrated, regardless of genre, some genres obviously more than others.

I mean, X fucking beat a pregnant woman almost to death, yet he’s celebrated, I just don’t get it.

 

I really don’t want to go back and forth with you on this but I’ll leave it at this- being anti-racist means unpacking all the internalized racism ALL OF US have. Even if you try your hardest to be anti racist you’re still going to harbor implicit bias/stereotype racist thoughts (such as that it’s ‘worse’ in hip hop than any other genre) and it’s our job to unpack them and examine them like I’m asking you to do.

Of course I don’t ‘get it’ either. But like...how many athletes have beat their wife and are still celebrated? How many cops!! Lmao like..even tho they aren’t celebrated individually, cops themselves are still respected/celebrated by many. The point is this can be applied to many different industries sadly.

I feel this. I don't know what more can be done aside from reaching out to the artists who are promoting Pinegrove with the information that we have (which is very little). I can't fault Phoebe or others for promoting them because I assume they don't know, but it's still disappointing to see it happen.

 

Can you point me towards the new information? I can't seem to find it and would like to be informed. All I can find is the story that appears to have been resolved by the victim.

I’m at work right now, but most of it came out in the Skylight thread directly after the news of the “resolution” broke. Basically, according to people close with the survivor mentioned in the p4k piece, they were unhappy with the article and how it simplified everything. On top of that, a user on this site alleged that they know of at least one more survivor of Evan’s abuse
