Just going to say that it’s great that Pitchfork put in a lot of work exposing XXX’s abuse and covering it, but at the end of the day they’re still legitimizing him by reviewing his work. That shit should be off-limits. I don’t care how many times they mention the allegations in the review, they shouldn’t be reviewing it in the first place. The right thing to do instead maybe would be to put up a news article collecting all of their previous reporting on his abuse in lieu of a review.

I feel uncertain about how media outlets should cover those situations. Where I’m at now is a soft “they shouldn’t”, but I’d love to hear some discussion about it.

Instead of promoting a new release from labels like Father/Daughter, media outlets can expend limited editorial space thoroughly documenting an abuser’s abuse. But I worry for the type of person who feels resistant to the very idea of accountability, rigorous coverage of abuse plants an idea in their mind of a threatening environment where “the media” is unfriendly to ideas like “everyone makes mistakes” or giving people a second chance.

To me and I reckon most folks here, that’s really absurd.

Reading some of the resistance in the Blink thread and experiencing political strife generally, it seems like the problem is those folks already have an aggrieved/besieged mentality and they’re searching for evidence to confirm their position and justify ignoring the push for decency. It’s not a real conversation, it’s a weaponizing of decontextualized evidence.

I find that unbelievably frustrating. It makes me wonder if our resources are better spent coalition building and strengthening alternative infrastructures. Visit Grey Estates for editorial media instead of p4k, for example.

A counterpoint to that is that pitchfork is fuckin huge. The times work I’ve contributed to has gotten coverage there, attention and plays have spiked a lot. So I’m also wondering if there is a way to launder positive ideas thru the levers of power...Rage Against The Machine reasoning, I guess.

Of course, prince of the fuckworld Paul Ryan is a giant Rage fan, so...that may not work.

Not that I want to continue to stir the pot, I just find it interesting from a business perspective. I haven't gotten Brand New on my discover weekly or daily mix on Spotify in years and just got my first ones on both in the last week.

I do think they were fine with sort of blacklisting them because while they were big they weren't XXX dude big.

Lastly, I think the Phoebe thing should spark some interesting conversations as this site adores her but she seems fine with the PG situation. Not sure how close she is, I know Julien toured with them.

Could it be that she has a fuller view of the situation and has just come to a different conclusion than the majority of this site?

Whose burner acct are you that you pop up any time Pinegrove is mentioned to offer some sort of viewpoint like this? It's a weird look that 99% of your posts are about the band

The odd thing is that it was created prior to any of the PG allegations to talk about the band. Maybe a person with google alerts turned on, then? I don't know.

We've already had this conversation multiple times in this thread so I am not sure what there is to discuss.

It's not going to be an interesting discussion, it's going to be a frustrating and sad discussion about how people in positions of power go unchecked by their peers if no one makes loud enough noise about it. That's the entire discussion.

I mean, that post was a troll job trying to preemptively gloat about how hypocritical people on this site will be when they don't criticize Phoebe for her bizarre and highly problematic refusal to stop boosting Pinegrove, simply because she's an artist a lot of people like here, so idk what significance it has to the discussion at hand. Calling it an "interesting discussion" and pointing out that people on this site "adore her" is kind of a dead giveaway about the intention of the post.

I will say it is likely Phoebe believes she has the fullest view of the situation, the way many people outside this forum do. The knowledge that there are other victims is literally limited to this forum because that knowledge came from here. That’s what makes the conversation around Pinegrove continually sad and frustrating.

I think it is an important nuanced discussion to be had. May have missed previous conversations on Phoebe and Pinegrove, given the number of posts. Being that she's a champion of various progressive beliefs and empowering women, and this forum having a unique perspective, I wondered what everyone's thoughts were on some artists seeming to distance themselves (I think adult mom) and others seeming to keep supporting like Kev and Phoebe.

The stir the pot comment was related to the BN popping up on my Spotify all of a sudden after not listening for a couple years and not seeing them ever show up on radio or mix. I remember seeing a conversation recently about blacklisting artists.
