I remember hearing about that in September but did anything ever actually come out? Maybe he (thankfully) decided not to put it out.

 

It sucks when bands whose members have sexually abused someone and shown no remorse co ti he to put out music. It’s happening right now with The Orwells.

The lyrics on this sound atrocious, which is unsurprising considering A) it's kind of their thing and B) the groping allegation against their singer.

 

Too bad he's a misogynistic asshole, because they're the least boring Dream Pop band I know. Some of the non-problematic songs (first track on the new record, that REO Speedwagon cover, and the few songs that are not directly about holding power over women, basically) are really cute too. Sucks.

RE: Whirr, it's depressing to see that they sold all 900 of their records in a day. I guess bands cannot truly be "cancelled" like actors / solo acts can, but they were the biggest assholes around so if one band needs to stay dead it's theirs.

 

Eh, it's exceedingly rare that anyone with any modicum of power or platform really gets cancelled. Usually they just wait a few months and then use the controversy to fuel their comeback.

 

“Cancel culture” or whatever they call it ends up only really working against vulnerable people with little to no power against the structural institutions that “cancel” them. So it only really ends up being effective against progressives, like what happened to the Dixie chicks

 

Yup. That's absolutely a prime example of where my "rare" stipulation comes in. It happens, just... not to the people folks usually argue against "cancel culture" in favor of.

Wow yeah that fucking sucks. When I see people I'm into hyping them up or associating with them I need to remind myself at how good of a job those scumbags did to make it seem like everything was just a misunderstanding that has been fixed. I really don't know if there's anyone outside of this site, and obviously the survivors and people they're close with who are speaking out, who knows that the shit is way worse than was let on by Pitchfork
