JJR was involved with some bands in my local scene and I was so confused. Like what the fuck!? get this guy outta here.

  4. And in the middle of that emailed POZ and lied to them about 'everything being a big misunderstanding' and convinced them to delete all their news stories about it. Then tried the same with me and AP.net. Lied to my face about there being no issues at all with Harry and anyone. I followed up to find out if that was true. It was not. The dude actively buried stories about sexual abuse in the music scene and lied about it to media to try and cover it up.

He basically did a version of what Louie CK's manager did for him. And he still works in the music scene.

  9. for fuck's sake, stop reducing being 'sad' in alternative music circles to an aesthetic you can just piggyback off. the sad summer fest? fucking really? are we still doing this? plenty of us who enjoy and support that scene have real mental health problems and just flippantly making references to shit like this leaves a bad taste in my mouth. bunch of bands on there I thought knew better but I guess not. FUCK, man.

Other interesting tidbits of that saga that only live on in our memories:
-Jake Round sending around an email saying "all your favorite bands like Harry" as a thinly veiled threat to shut up and then retracting it ASAP when it leaked on AP.net
-I had a private conversation with Nick Steinborn about it via text that made me feel much better about the situation, but as the years go on I can't help but feel it was mostly because I happened to be the face of a lot of the public online backlash and smoothing it over with me helped keep heat off TWY.

Btw @ everyone who is still pining for that Fireworks reunion, they're also friends with JJR and Harry and aren't shy about it. I boycotted their final show over it.

He is very nice and I definitely don't want to disparage him here because it was a kind gesture, but it disappoints me that people trying to say that they want change in this industry are not willing to cut ties with someone who is so obviously willing to abuse their position.

    Let it run Supporter

I can't speak on behalf of what part Nick played in anything (and fuck it, he's probably seen me say things multiple times on this site so whatever) but he was the only member to reach out to me after repeatedly calling out the band on AP. He told me that they were internally dealing with the JJR situation but were afraid of "burning bridges", and that's the last I heard of it. It basically sounded like a few of the guys wanted to completely cut ties and other guys were still friends with him, so it just kinda quietly went away.

At the end of the day, they're signed to the same label that houses many shitty dudes. I appreciate their position as men trying to keep their jobs, but eventually they will have to reckon with their position as one of the biggest bands in the scene. Whether they like it or not, people are going to expect them to speak out about these things. They legitimately have the power to be a pillar on issues like this and I hope that someday they realize that's important to uphold, even when it isn't easy. Anyone can dedicate a snarky song to Jake McElfresh on Warped. Few have the power to call for real change without getting buried. I would love for them to step up to the plate someday.

If memory serves correctly I think he mentioned this in this very thread or possibly on AP or somewhere else/ I recall him saying something to this effect of "we cut ties with him professionally but our personal ties run deep and it's hard to untangle things" so I guess when I saw the pic of jjr and Matt from the wonder years I figured it was two people who like knew each other personally and someone snapped a pic as you do of friends- not that they were working with him or giving him a voice or whatever. I don't really know what he does with FYS so I can't comment on that part
