Ah I'm not sure how to feel. On one hand they did fire him and stopped the professional relationship with him, therefore taking away some power he had in the scene. And I'm not sure one member speaks for the whole band. I don't know.

It does look bad though and I feel like JJR was very calculated with that post. Fuck him, though.

how is it taking away some power to quietly fire him without putting out a statement and letting him just move on to another band to have just the same level of control he had previously? They're helping him cover his actions and shifting their problem priest to another parish only to create some deniability

Its all trash men defending other trash men

In addition to multiple people talking about how members of the band were hesitant to even fire him in the first place. This is just explicit proof to point to when people start talking about them cutting ties

I mean, letting him go is just pouring water on the fire / saving face. They were never realistically going to stop being friends with him. Bros will be bros, etc.

I don't think they should join the "cancelled" party as a band at all but this is disappointing and says a lot about what pop-punk brahs think about these issues.

I agree with the 3 above statements and they clarify for me what I was first unsure about. Thanks

Which member of TWY is that? Not that I believe it’s only this one who still has ties I just want to know.

  9. Windowsdown

    Mike Kennedy (their drummer).

I made the very poor decision of posting about this in the tour forum thread where TWY and FYS/JJR will be on tour together. It sucks how many people are either ignorant or simply don't care about this entire situation.

There will always be pushback, but if your post informed at least one decent, sympathetic person, it's all good. Don't worry about it.

I understand why a band's fan would want to defend its members when the situation's REALLY shady, but this dude has notoriously been a creep forever. I live on the other side of the fucking Atlantic Ocean, in a non-english speaking country, and he's always behaved like a toxic asshole with girls in my local scene.

  13. Yeah, I won't be giving this lineup any $$ either. I love the Maine to pieces, but between JJR and how white/male their lineups tend to be, I'll only be going under an outlet's name (IF I go at all, Every Avenue was kinda the difference maker for me there and they're not playing California).

what’s the story with this JJR guy?

  15. Gather round the fire, boy do we have a story for you.

  16. that's... just incredibly fucking disappointing.

He used to manage a band that Harry Corrigan fronted. Harry Corrigan was later accused of rape/assault--

When other people in the scene started speaking out about the situation, JJR called them and threatened legal action.

  18. Yeah, this fact, plus JJR, while also including MAGA-the Sickest Kids in there is a big no from me.

revive that thread from AP that was basically the precursor to this one

All of the tangible proof has been washed away with AP/Tumblr, but basically:
Harry Corrigan of the pop punk band No Good News was accused of sexual abuse a few years ago.
Christian of The Hotelier made a post about it on Tumblr in which he also detailed how, after calling Corrigan out, he was repeatedly harassed by John James Ryan (at the time working with TWY but associated with a slew of other bands).
Basically JJR called and left voicemails threatening Christian/his band that if they continued to speak out they could kiss their careers goodbye as he knows many of the bookers in the Long Island scene.
A bunch of people on AP made a big deal out of it, rightfully, and called for a boycott of Pure Noise records. That basically lead nowhere, as far as I know, aside from TWY quietly "firing" JJR. A lot of bands and labels cut ties with AP over it as well.

    It sucked

    EDIT:
Lemmie know if I messed any of those details up

Just did a quick scroll through JJR’s twitter and saw lots of other respected scene folks interacting with him there. Not even just dudes.

    Gross. Burn it down.

  23. The lead singer is a big time MAGA conservative. He may have hid all his tweets and instagrams about it, but yeahhhh.

  24. I fucking hate this scene sometimes.
