I don't know if this is too local to post, then again I suppose accountability should be more important in every local scene, but my friend matched with a member of the Ohio pop punk band Near Mint on tinder.
My friend identifies as non-binary and states so in their profile.
This is how the conversation went down.

I went to high school with a Jarek who got in a very drawn-out high speed car chase with the cops and came back to school a hero. And after that tinder shit up there, confirmed not a name I associate with great decision-making.

 

I went to look at their FB and they have 325 likes but there are already a ton of “reviews” mentioning transphobia, so it seems like this is going viral in some circles already. Have they toured at all or are they only local?

 

I missed a lot in this thread but here are some mixed thoughts from an 18 year old white dude whose opinion nobody asked for:
1. Phoebe Bridgers deserves everything good in this world
2. Why are we still debating Better Off ok if you haven't been on chorus dot fm long enough just know now that people on this site (myself included) don't tolerate abusive men
3. Sometimes I have bad takes on this site and should shut my privileged white mouth but I wanna say that like I backed the TMP statement a few pages back and I totally regret it. Fuck that band.
4. Why the fuck did we as a society JUST decide R Kelly is a pedophile? Isn't this like commonly known information? I swear people only believe victims when someone makes a whole ass documentary about it
5. I think we can all agree that women are the fire extinguishers for all the bullshit men unleash onto this world
6. Maybe just idk stop supporting abusive artists and start supporting musicians who are abusive and not just white dudes! Women in music are killing it right now (Golden Hour sweeping the Grammys made me tear up) so let's support that and keep that moving

All those comments/reviews talking about transphobia are from friends of my friend reacting to that conversation.

I really have no idea if they have ever toured, I actually can't remember if I have seen them on line ups before even in Columbus.

 

I have a friend in the Columbus area. She doesn't even know who they are (which is good, glad she isn't supporting them)

The TMZ version says the story was actually covered at the time?! They just didn’t focus on the fact that he was with a child. That completely shocks me, despite everything else we know about how things have been covered up.
