Anna you have a level of patience that I aspire to reach one day, w/r/t posting thoughtful insightful answers that get ignored in favor of another round of whataboutism

  3. this is a very surface level post from me and Anna and others have explain the much bigger issues regarding this stuff in much better ways than I ever will - but I don't understand why people so staunchly defend bands or artists who have done shitty things or don't take accountability etc when there is literally THOUSANDS of amazing problematic-free artists you can listen to.

again very surface level but it doesn't make sense to me when the only reason people defend these terrible actions from bands is because they are afraid of missing out on their music or whatever. it's beyond me. it's easy to drop these bands and artist like a bad habit and then GET EDUCATED AND LISTEN TO what's going on in here.

I don't miss listening to Brand New or Moose Blood or whomever for one second because 1. I've learned so much from people like Anna and Kayla and countless other great voices in this thread and 2. there is again truly THOUSANDS of great art to listen to instead

  4. If you miss Better Off I can show you 35 other bands that sound exactly like them that are better and deserve your money more. And also aren’t shitty apologists.

My head hurts from reading some of this shit.

moose blood has way more fans that are Off The Internet and don't care about this kinda stuff. denying/obfuscating and relying on your less connected fans to support you is an extremely good way to keep your career afloat. I doubt capsize has that kind of suppose, was anywhere near that big, and they made the decision to address it (poorly but w/e) immediately, whereas moose blood spent like 2 years "waiting to see what happens"

Important to remember that defenders of abusive men don’t want to talk about it, some are in this thread ignoring things quoted at themthat explain why they’re being hypocritical or missing points, but most of them just avoid threads like this or articles about bands being abusive.

And the main reason they avoid this kind of thing is to live in a world where they can be ignorant of a dangerous reality for women. It’s a bubble where nothing bad happens and if someone tries to pull them out of the bubble into the realworld they get defensive and ignore obvious things and double down defending their friends or bands they like.

These people, like sincerity guy who has been missing the point for like 100 posts in this thread, don’t hate women or want women (or men) to be harmed, they just don’t want to acknowledge it when it’s happening because it creates and uncomfortable situation for them when they have to stop ignoring reality and understand uncomfortable truths that need actual solutions.

These people don’t like that abuse happens, but they are the reason abuse has been able to go unpunished and abusers have been able to thrive for so many years.

Every doubt, every qualification, every “oh you don’t know what he means but wait I do let’s never talk about this again”, knowingly or not, they have been actively silencing discussion of abuse, directly helping abusers, and making it harder and harder for women to come forward. These kinds of people value their own bubble of mental safety more than the physical safety of others, they are bedrock on which abusive monsters are able to grow and take over. They have no place in communities where abuse needs to be rooted out entirely.

If they can’t be reached with information and logic and common sense understanding of this problem, and want to continue pure forgiveness and defense for known shitheads, fuck em. They’ve chosen to disconect and have no place in finding solutions to this widespread problem.

  13. I just want to say: I appreciate the love and support I get for the work I do on here and elsewhere on the internet.

And to that point, I want to be clear about something. I do this work because I decided it’s mine to do. And for every time I feel like I’m screaming into the void, I have enough DMs and IRL confrontations that end with someone saying I helped them to see something a little differently. And as long as that keeps happening, I’ll consider the work to be worth it.

People learn when they’re ready. Thanks to everyone who continues to listen.

I was molested by a family member as a child and I watched Leaving Neverland recently and tbh there’s no doubt in my mind that they’re telling the truth. It’s all in their body language. Also, the way James, in particular, described the effects it had on his psyche/mental health/etc. (growing up deeply hating yourself but not knowing why) is something I relate to all too well.

Sorry, not going to believe any of the Jackson’s over Wade or James. It’s just not gonna happen. Besides, the writing in that article is hilariously slanted.

I watched Leaving Neverland last night... it was genuinely one of the most shocking yet powerful things I’ve watched in my life. There’s NO doubt in my mind that it’s true.

Honestly between this and the R. Kelly documentary, both of which were focused heavily on powerful victim testimonies... it really has opened my eyes to things I was ignorant about in regards to sexual abuse. Just hearing the two men in Leaving Neverland speak about their experiences and knowing in my heart that it’s all true, and no one believed them for so long... it really shook me as someone whose family has been affected by abuse, and I realized any excuses I could make for not totally supporting victims just fall away in the face of something so horrifying.

I had never been a “rape apologist” in my mind, yet there were instances where I think I was far too willing to wait for more evidence even in the face of serious allegations against someone, without realizing how privileged I am to be in a situation where I could be seemingly “impartial” or try to “separate art from artist”. Quite frankly I’ll never listen to Michael Jackson’s music willingly again, and I don’t have any desire to continue the fallacy of “separating art from artist” with any abuser.

For those who watched Leaving Neverland please make sure to watch the Oprah special as well. I found that to be very informative when it comes to the topic of predators and how they groom victims and interact with people.
