he keeps testing the waters- randomly drop photos, songs, etc. I think it's a PR move to see where the dial is at. More positive response, go on ahead. Less, fade back into obscurity, try again in a few months.

 

I checked his twitter and uh... apparently not only did he drop a record last year, but it got to like #30 on billboard without a label or even playing a show. This guy still has a pretty significant fan base.

So Leeds band Hookworms are done after it turns out their frontman MJ (or Matthew Johnson to give him his full name) is an abusive, predatory fuck who has hidden behind feminist credentials for a couple of additional years despite this having happened in 2016. They released their third and final record Microshift via Domino in March, and before they could be dropped and their career implode, they at least took it upon themselves to announce their dissolution.
