not that I don't think there are a lot of things wrong with Makeout, but it seems like that particular member has not been in the band for a while now

I looked and there was a post on their instagram in June about him leaving the band

But he's still listed on the Facebook and his twitter handle is still @MakeoutAlex so I'm ok with not excusing the band

Regarding The Mountain Goats situation, anyone else find it a bit strange how much of a cult the fandom is? I like the band and have seen them live twice, but I wouldn’t call myself a huge fan. However, a lot of fans, at lest the ones with an online presence, literally look up to John as some kind of God figure and I find that to me weird and unhealthy.

Fandom is something I try not to get into as an adult. I did the whole Fandom thing as a tween/teen, well as much as I could with like geocities and LiveJournal lmao and while it was super fun to interact with other people who were like-minded, it ultimately wasn't healthy and a lot of my... I guess delusional and intrusive behavior was validated and rewarded which wasn't good. I'm sure there are healthier ways to interact with Fandom but just with my past experiences I tend to stay on the outer fringe of it all now

I feel like some artists kinda take advantage of Fandom for the coins too which makes me sad espesh cause lots of them are kids. Like it feels kinda exploitative and dangerous when artists act like their fans are their bffs because stans will then throw their money at absolutely everything and do anything to get a like from their fave and a lot of these ppl are young girls. Like yeah it's great marketing and sales and then we applaud the artist for good business sense but like they're just kids and you're using their vulnerability and impressionable minds to forge this "connection" that you're then using for maximum profit which I guess is just capitalism and how that relationship works but it makes me sad. And also kinda bitter to know all the dumbass stuff I bought as a youth to support my faves lol. Like I know artists need to make a living which is harder now than ever before with poor music sales but idk idk I'm on a tangent and don't know how to get back on track haha
