It’s actually a common move when demand is low. Book the full arena for optics, then rotate the stage to one end and curtain off the rest. That way, they can say “we played Moda Center” without admitting they only sold a third of it

    Do bands hire seat fillers?
Yeah and also as I had mentioned earlier these venues I’d say are ambitious pre-victim stories….doesnt the Moda hold like 20k lol

This is the current seating chart at the Allstate Arena in IL which seats 18k+. Those upper sections were likely never widely made available to begin with. The few blue dots you’re seeing now are probably resale tickets or seats that were held back and just released. Guessing this is a soft-closure move: the promoter keeps entire sections “off market” without physically curtaining them (yet), which would make sense when demand is too low for the venue's size

ok that is really sketchy. Just a few days ago that entire lower bowl was covered blue dots. Something suspicious there, as I highly doubt they suddenly sold thousands of tickets after months of stale sales.
Most likely just “sold” the tickets to Groupon or some other discount site who will now try and move them.

Exactly, don't think it's real demand, it’s optics management. Those tickets didn’t magically sell overnight after months of not moving. More likely they were pulled to be comped, bundled, or offloaded to third-party sites at a deep discount. Or they'll just be curtained off entirely

I can’t imagine opting to play Portland (no disrespect to Portland, but I wouldn’t consider them a top tier market) and choosing the fucking basketball arena that holds 20K people of all places. I get that maybe there isn’t a midsize venue for them but there’s gotta be SOMETHING between Roseland’s 1500 cap and the home of the Trailblazers. A packed Keller Auditorium would look so much better than a quarter full cavern.

It’s possible the band was that delusional in thinking it would be a massive comeback.

Sucks to suck when you’re a peodphile

Fair, I guess I can’t count on them to make great choices given their history.

That’s a normal setup. It’s the Theater of the Clouds which is a basketball Arena that’s half closed off with a 6500 capacity. Portland lacks indoor venues in the 3-10K range so a lot of bands just play the Moda with this configuration. It’s great that this tour can’t fill this. The coheadliner with Modest Mouse did the regular Moda setup and sold super well so this is a big fall off. Love to see it.

It probably doesn’t help when your band has no social media presence to speak of because the moment they turn on the comments they will (rightfully) be called pieces of shit.

  20. Scraped into the top 20 in the UK and missed the top 40 here in Ireland. For context: every single one of their albums bar Funeral went straight in at number one here. Even WE. Album is a fucking flop and I love this song.

one of my most indelible musical memories was going to a gig at main hall (RIP!) in the fall of 2004 having just moved to montreal at 18 and funeral was playing on the loudspeakers on repeat between sets, with people singing along already. never seen anything like that before or since. can't think of another band whose relationship with its audience has tanked harder faster in the 20.5 years since then.

It would be least surprising if Brand New scrambles to release a song or something to help generate buzz for this tour now that it’s not selling.

so sad what this band became both musically and personally…the album is really not good and Ive somewhat liked everything they’ve put out with of course the first 3 being all timers….but this album I had 0 desire to go back to

I made the mistake of looking at the subreddit again. There are a whole bunch of dorks on there who honestly believe that the band intentionally chose to play venues they couldnt fill and the band is behind the $5 resale tickets because the band wanted to ensure that all fans would be able to get in.
Also saw comments that the reason there has been no marketing or publicity for the tour is because the band wants their first tour back to be experienced by true die hard fans and not casual listeners.

The fucking hoops people will jump through to convince themselves reality is what they want it to be. Its scary.
