Not wading into the mental illness aspect of this, but I just worry with the kind of regression of our language as a way of being edgy, like the worst comedians and posters on Twitter bringing back the r-slur in full force, what a person like Kanye not only endorsing Nazis and Hitler, but also making a song about it is doing to normalize Nazis.

Like, Kanye hasn’t been good in forever imo. But I still think he has a legacy that gives him more credibility than a Tom Macdonald, whose entire discography and existence is incredibly dorky and embarrassing.

Like, there are inevitably going to be dorks playing and singing along to “Heil Hitler” and think it’s cool and subversive and I feel like we got a rare moment of grace that streaming services grew a conscience and banned the song because, like so many other times we’ve seen, they could have just “let the people decide” and kept it up.

 

I think Kanye is way past the point of any kind of redemption arc, but what is somehow sadder to me is that he clearly has no one who actually cares about him. He has a circle of enablers, and people who glom onto him for some sort of cred or glimpse of fame, and the whole thing sucks. I imagine people may have tried to help him in the past and have just been banished from his circle, but watching someone’s downfall like this from afar for the last half a decade just feels shitty.

If ever I am at my lowest point and undergoing full mental collapse, I hope whatever friends I have left try to help me and not just use me for personal gain. But unfortunately for me, I am not rich or famous. There’s still time though!

 

Yeah, I agree that he’s past a point of no return and has apologized for being antisemitic only to walk it back so many times that it would take a lot of work to make it feel genuine.

I do wonder what this would have been like in a pre-influencer era because it just seems like he’s burned every bridge with even the worst rappers like The Game that he’s resorted to hanging out with bottom feeders like Sneako and Akademiks.

Like, two decades ago, he just would have gone away because he’s been shunned. Now, there will always some low-tier class of moral-free influencers (with tons of followers) willing to work with him, even at his most antisemitic and homophobic because hey, it’s Kanye.

 

Maybe this makes me a bad person, or maybe it’s the just the horror stories my polish grandparents have told me about their treatment at the hands of nazis echoing about in my brain, but I really don’t care why someone is a nazi. Mental health issues, personal choice, upbringing, etc. The details don’t matter to me. They change nothing. If someone is a nazi, I hope really, really bad things happen to them

People entertained the performance art thing for approximately two seconds when he started courting the right in 2016. Since then, it's literally been a decade of him repeatedly proving he is the dumbest motherfucker on the planet lol it is 100% NOT performance art. If he were to claim it is, that would only mean he doesn't understand what those words mean.
