what's problematic about them? gross lyrics but like...how does that separate them from like, most spiteful pop punk bands?

i'm not defending them but like...are we only posting them here because they're known as being historically awful? there are much worse, actually relevant people to be talking about rather than post something like that

Agree that there’s 0 reason for that article to be posted here - however I have to note after reading it that it’s kinda hilarious that altpress of all outlets has the nerve to disparage or talk down to the fans of any musical artist, even if it is Brokencyde

I got interested in the Pete Wentz thing and found that it's pretty .... not good. I commented last year on it with,

"..according to Janae White's blog, she says (when she was 20 now) that she had spent 1/4 her life with "Peter" (in a post marked on June 24th 2007). If that's accurate (and the same "Pete" she dated), then yeah, he did date her when she was with him from 15 until 20.

I think we have a right to be suspicious. Dude was 26 dating a teenager anyway...."

Unless she's not being accurate herself with dates, years, figures, etc.

At first I thought Brokencyde was indeed bad because of some stuff with underagers, but I think I was think of Blood on the Dance Floor. I think they get lumped together and so people associate that stuff with both of them, but Blood on the Dancefloor are like for sure bad people, I think Brokencyde is just a bad band.

So a woman says she wants people to stop speculating about her life and people keep doing it anyway? Is that okay? I'm genuinely asking.

It's that and bad/exaggerated math and people having her birthdate wrong. Unless someone can find anything with them together in 2003 or earlier.

yeah, exactly. the lyrics are very bad but the band themselves haven't done any bad actions as far as i've known

It’s definitely an aspect of this issue that is far too often overlooked in favor of headlines or immediately outing every detail of an abuser. It came up a lot with the Cam Boucher story because that was something published completely without the consent of the victim who was basically forced to tell her story to the world when she wasn’t ready to. Taking into account how and when someone wants to bring things out (or not) is just as important to taking abuse seriously as believing the stories when they are told. Outing someone’s specific story for them or going against someone’s express wishes to dig something up absolutely goes against the heart of trying to create a safer environment and help people heal.

It’s a weird line to walk up to. I think we can have conversations about men and their bad deeds without dragging the personal details of victims into it. Especially because it seems like this woman doesn’t consider herself a victim of anything but a bad relationship. Ultimately, it’s up to the person to decide whether they want to come forward with their story, but once the details are out, the genie can’t be put back in the bottle. We can’t pretend we don’t know someone is a creep or an abuser. I think the answer is difficult and muddled. We have a responsibility to protect others, but also a responsibility not to re-traumatize victims or mislabel their experiences.

In this case, since Janae has specifically asked Jason to have his website stop discussing her, we should respect that. Those who have been mistreated are allowed to move on, to forgive. Especially if they don’t think the person is a danger to others. Ultimately, accountability in music comes down to making the scene safe for everyone and we can’t do that by disrespecting people’s stories and lives.

  14. Pretty insane how it’s been well over a month since the Cam Boucher situation and nobody knows anything. Not a word from anyone.

  15. And with that people should be allowed to change their minds as well and go from not wanting or wanting to talk about something to the opposite. But I’m of the mindset that privacy of someone’s personal stuff is paramount if they ask it. Which is why I always say the same thing about this: what I was told and what I can personally verify.

Just dropping by to say putting pup’s song about someone he can’t stand while on tour and writing a tongue and cheek song about how annoying they are next to that shitty breakup fall out boy song is pretty out of place imo. Also pup is what’s up.

  18. I mean considering Cams post about it was him saying “her accusations are false”..maybe something from him since he chalked up the allegations as baseless?

  20. But while some details remain murky, some industry figures are already wondering about the potential longterm effects. Asks one major-label executive: "Will this change the practice of who’s signed? And what will those decisions then be based on? And who becomes the judge for that?"

    lol. These people.

Hey, glad to discuss further, the reason I put them together is because on surface/first listen it can seem similar but obviously are very very different. Mostly because people will often argue or say “oh so now no one can write angry lyrics?” Which isn’t it. I’d also appreciate in the future if this could be discussed more directly
